I had the 3 3 HSU, nice sub. I would also look at the Outlaw, Epik and SVS offerings in that price range.

how many cubic feet in the room you are hoping preasuring ?

Hi Eric2431, tell us what cu. ft.(L x W x H) size room are you working with? OOPS, I see thsmith asked you the same question, lol! There'a a number of good subs in that price range:) I'm kinda partial to Epik but would someday try out a used SVS or HSU if I found one at a bargain price.

    Eric,
I had a pair of RTiA3s and ran that with an Epik Valor sub (no longer available but it fit your budget amount - may want to see what the comparable replacement is).

    Pretty darn sweet combination!! :D

But the subs you mentioned also have good street 'buzz'.

Looks like your room is under 2000cf assuming you have no large opening into other rooms which must also be accounted for. At 2000CF the HSU 3 3 should give you what you are looking for.

In my over 5Kcf room including a large opening into another room I found I could bottom out the 3 3 and went to SVS PB13.

One thing I highly suggest is learning sub placement and room frequencies using a program like REW or an auto sub calibration device like Antimodal but even then you are not addressing the dips.

REW (room EQ Wizard, free program at hometheatershack.com) helps you figure out placement and what peaks need to be tamed using something like the Berinhger Feedback Destroyer.

Just depends how much time and interest you have to invest in learning this program but the elders at the shack are helpful.

Epik Empire ($799) or dual Legend ($899) http://www.epiksubwoofers.com/products.html

    These look real tempting.
