Enough power for these speakers?

I'm getting a 5.1 set consisting of 2xLC265i in the front, LCi-C for the center, and 2xLC80i for the surrounds. Will the Emotiva UPA-5 provide enough power for these speakers?

Thanks,
Vadim

    Welcome to the forum.

I am not familiar with those speakers so I cannot comment. I am sure someone will come along and give some advice.

I would say for the LCiC and the LC80i's you would be OK... I would like to see a little more power on the LCiC, but it would be OK. It would drive the LC265i's too... It is 4 ohm stable.... But I like to see those speakers get a little more power. Somewhere in the range of 300 watts per speaker. It is always nice to have more power than you need so the amp isn't sprinting all the time... I think the XPA-5 would be a better fit...

So will it work and sound OK, yes, are there better choices, IMHO, yes....

Something with around 300WPC at 4 ohms would do nicely on those 265's.

Have you thought at all about a used amp?

P.S. I see the UPA-5 is selling at $399 right now... I see where you are coming from.

The upa5 will have plenty of power and it is in my opinion the better choice for buying emotiva . The xpa series are known to have a high gain resulting in a hissing noise when the amp is just powerd on or between tracks on a cd when the volume is up high and there is a silience

The upa5 does not have this .I realy dont know why everyone on here needs 600w pch

Because with power hungry speakers like the LSI/LCI more power is better. Especially if you want the speakers to perform to their full potential.

Most people can hear a clear improvement at about 200wpc @ 8ohms, lower than that some may or may not be able to hear one.

If your going to spend the money, do so that you KNOW that you are actually getting an improvement.

Do it once & do it right, then sit back & enjoy.

I've heard the XPA5 in my HT and thought it did movies just fine. I had no hiss issues or anything that would make me drive a stake through it's heart. It was not as smooth as I like on music.

I'd recommend the most you can afford. I don't think you'd be disappointed int he XPA 5.

I'll agree with cfrizz. You want to have has much power (watts/current) as possible. I feel you can never have enough power in an HT. There are wide swings in the peaks and valleys of sound and you need the arse to backstop the high demand.
