Sub recommendation

I have been trying to reduce the size of my HT speakers, e.g., replacing Monitor 10's with 5's. So, I'm thinking about getting the first sub I ever owned....

I am using CRS+ for fronts and a CSi5 center....

There seem to be a lot of posts about subs, are they hard to work with (if you never had one!).....

thanks

Not hard at all but it will take some time and effort to find the proper placement and some time behind the dial tuning it so it blends in with your speakers as best as possible.

I don't think it's too hard setting up a Sub, especially if you utilize the LFE connection.

Are you gonna stick with a Polk sub?

If not, HSU, JL Audio, SVU, and Velodyne are highly regarded. I'm currently looking at a Sunfire SQ sub or two DSW2000s. I guess it depends on how big of a footprint you want and the type of money you wanna spend.

One thing that really helped me that I learned from this forum: Try placing your sub on your couch -- or wherever you're going to sit while listening to your system -- and then walk around the room and listen to where you hear the best bass. This is where you'll want to place your sub...if it works in that location.

I really like picking up used if possibe...Polk would be nice since all other speakers are Polk...need to match up with CRS+ and Monitor 10's....if it matters...maybe bass is bass...with the Csi 5, I run everything as large with no sub (since I don't have one!).

Is there something specific for the older Polk Monitors and a mini SDA I should look for??....thanks a whole bunch...

There's a chap on audiogon who has at least one PSW 505, new in box and for $200.00. Says he prefers local pickup, but if it's new in box I would think he'd be willing to ship.

    Integrated Amp: Krell S-300i
    DAC: Arcam irDac

I would look for one of the newer Polk subs, either the ported DSW or the sealed/PR micro-pro subs. The micro-pro line would meet your goal of getting smaller speakers. The micro-pro subs are really, really nice for both HT and music.

What are you willing to spend?

If you have $500-$600 you can pick up a Sunfire. They are pretty small. Only 11" cube that goes down to 18hz.
Sunfire TGP, Sunfire Cinema Grand, Sunfire 300~2 (2), Sunfire True Sub (2),Carver ALS Platinum, Carver AL III, TFM-55, C-19, C-9, TX-8, SDA-490t, SDA-390t

I agree with dkg999; go with the newer line of Polk speakers. If you go to Polk's ebay page you can pick up a used DSW micropro 2000 for roughly $300 -- you'll have to bid, and this doesn't include shipping and handling.

I've auditioned a couple of micropros and they sound pretty darn good. Most of the older Polk subs were ported, which isn't a bad thing, but it's a different type of bass. Their new line is sealed, which makes them have deep and accurate bass in a somewhat tiny cabinet.
