I'm running an Nvidia card, but I've never uninstalled drivers before installing new ones, in Win XP or 7/64.

I've never had to uninstall drivers either before updating/installing to new ones.

Are you using ATI's software to update your driver? I'd say go to the website itself and manually install the drivers for your specific video card.

I run both nVidia and ATI (more than 1 PC) and never had a problem with drivers on any of the cards on any OS.

Best bet is to go to the support>downloads/drivers page of ATI's site.

Right click, my computer, select device manager, select display adapter, there they are. ATI Catalyst is a program for managing those drivers (resolutions, temps, fan speeds, colours, 3D, etc.. and has nothing to do with install or uninstalling the drivers.
