The fact that a show like Angel lasted for 5 seasons while Firefly was cancelled after 1 is evidence of this.

The fact that 95% of the shows that are even on TV are actually considered to be good enough to even be on TV is enough to convince me that the world is stupid.

You do realize they were both done by the same guy, right?

Rome was awesome. I wish they could figure out a budget or get the funds to continue it.

Rome went 2 seasons, it was killed because it was deemed too expensive.

Deadwood went 3 seasons and would have continued, but it was killed due to some dispute between the studio and HBO.

The space western concept of FireFly was just too odd for mainstream TV. It didn't help when Fox moved its scheduled time. That was in pre-DVR days for most people.

I didn't see the series until ~2006 or so when it was replayed on HDNet.

I'm thoroughly of the opinion that the big networks are run by a bunch of idiots. One of last year's best shows was cancelled after just a few episodes (Southland). Luckily it was picked up by TNT. This year, one of the best critical picks (Lone Star) was cancelled after only two episodes. They didn't even bother to air the remaining episodes that were already filmed!
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

While I dont think Angel was that bad of a show (lets just say when you are in a hospital for a month and TV is limited....Angel will do in a pinch), I hear you on Firefly. what a great show.

I guarantee 100% of the people who say **** like this have never even TRIED to watch most of what is on TV.

There are some great, GREAT shows on right now and in the past decade or so.

A quick run through the channels pretty much tells us what works
and what doesn't. Bad girls is horrid, but it only costs them for
Booze and repairs to the "house". I can't watch them for more than
5 minutes before being disgusted and leaving the room. The Mrs.
watches it every time. I guess most Americans love a train wreck.
I hate most all the reality shows. And about 90% of everything else.
Anything I like is either on history channel, or cancelled in the first year.
Good thing I've got the 2 channel rig.

You forgot all the quality programming, like jersey shore, dancing with the stars, who wants to marry a millionaire, wife swap, kate with 8, survivor, etc

There are a lot of good programs, most just happen to be educational, or sports :D

I WILL buy Firefly and ROME from a pawn shop the next time I see it. Alot of 2 thumbs up for that series I've heard over the past couple of years.

It seems NFL reigns supreme for months.

I liked Hell's Kitchen in the begining but this year is just bizzar with such childish chefs. It's a joke now more than ever. I think the producers have swayed to the general publics desire of wanting childish antics like the other reality shows always have.
Another SAD thought (shaking head side to side)
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

I forgot one: ESPN's Playmakers. Awesome show. Cancelled because the NFL got very angry about it.

Firefly was actually well-liked by the mainstream culture (as evidenced by it's fanbase...in the millions). However, it was hard for people to really enjoy at first because Fox decided to show the series out of order. And on a show like Firefly, there is a lot from previous episodes that is alluded to in new ones.
