I was wondering if anyone had dual 555 on a pair of sda-1c. I just wanted to what the raw power of 700 plus what does for the sda-1c. I currently have a Parasound A21 on them, but was wondering about maybe doing raw power. Any help would be greatful

thank you Mitchell

You can't run mono block or bridged mono amps with SDA's. There is an AI-1 interconnect that will allow you to run true mono amps with certain model SDA's, but it's not recommended to run bridged mono amps on SDA's because of impedance issues.

Only certain SDA's can use the AI-1 cable. Some 1C's can use it (AI-1 interconnect) , but not all.

It's about quality power not quantity power, so my answer to your question is NO.

I hear that bridging the 555's and other amps tend to bring the quality of the sound down some as well. I am personally looking for an A21 so if you decide to sell yours, let me know.

I didn't try bridging my 555, but I found my GFA-555 to be a little too much on the bright side with my SDA-1Cs and I have the RD0-194 tweets on mine. I used the 555 with an Anthem tube pre with Mullard tubes and tube buffers with my CD(Opera Audio CD120 Balanced) and SACD (Denon 2900) and it still sounded bright to my taste. YMMV, but IMHO there are a lot better matches ampwise out there for SDA-1Cs. I would definitely stick with your Parasound over dual bridged GFA-555s.

I am currently looking at an ADCOM 555 mkII in LA, any better than the original in terms of brightness?

I just got a 555II hooked up to my SDA SRS 2.3TA's and think it sounds great. My room is not the best acoustically. Lots of reflective surfaces. I listen to a lot of classic rock, and honestly until I hear a "non bright" amp, think it sounds great.

I've had a few original Adcom's and they were never bright on SDA's. You have to use a decent pre-amp with them in my experience.

I have my 501's hooked up to the 4 Ohm tap giving 1K of watts with 90 amps going to the SRS2. These speakers will rock!! I'm using the AI-1 until my Dreadnaught is complete. The case is at the powdercoating joint. I had a bit sybilance until I changed out the tweets. To me a very smooth speaker with no brightness to mention.

Well, that is enough positive reviews for me to drop $250 on a 555II.

Incidentally, most of the reviews I have read indicate that the original 555 was bright, but that the mark II was a lot more neutral. Hopefully I will find out for myself by this weekend :)

I preferred the original series amps. But for $250 either one is a good deal.

    Enjoy
