Just got back from my Italy vacation.....Venice, Milan, Pisa, Florence, Sienna, Rome and Amalfi Coast. All very beautiful of coarse, but I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed driving up and down the Amalfi coast. I'll post a few pictures in the coming days.

    Hi, Joe.

I travel alot to Europe, but never do the car thing. I should probably try it sometime.
How much did the car rental cost? Is it difficult to maneuver in the city? I've been to Italy twice and still haven't seen enough of it. It's the most beautiful country in Europe in my opinion.

I used Europcar and it cost around $650 cdn for 10 days. I turned the car in for the 4 day stay in Rome and rented it again after. I had a midsize car since we were 2 couples.

You need to be a good driver and you need to be on the aggressive side to drive in Italy. Not aggressive in terms of attitude btw, you just need to be more "spirited" or they will honk you constantly.

You gotta watch out for the scooters, they buzz in and out anywhere and constantly pass on the oncoming lane...and it is all accepted by the drivers. There is no such thing as a scooter waiting in line at a traffic light. They ALL weave in and out to get to the front.

Yeah..folks there are used to looking out for scooters. We Americans aren't conditioned for that. I think I'll stick to buses and trains. I get to relax and meet people that way even though it's less convenient. I'm in no hurry to get anyplace when I'm there, anyway. I use Europe to learn how to slow down...except in Napoli where you'd better run fast to cross the street. lol
Now that I'm thinking of it, i had a friend who rented a car, and while it was more convenient, he was a little stressed at time. Being from L.A., stress is something I'm trying to get rid of when I'm on vacation.
