Help to clean my shoes.

Okay, scouted the interwebs, nothing short of don't do this do that crap.
So, asking for anyone who has ever really looked at their once bright white shoes and saw they were as black as the pair of work shoes sitting next to them.

Anyway, I have a pair of cloth white shoes. They are really dirty from mud and dirt.
Wondering the best way to bring them back to white; I don't need them all the way white, but at least whiter than they are now.

Any tricks or whatever to clean a cloth shoe? I have done leathery like ones with tooth brush and tooth paste and stuff like that, but am not sure how that would work with cloth shoes?
Thanks.

The sites I read up on said that would shrink the shoes or something like that.
Our work just went to all solid color shoes, and those shoes are the most comfortable shoes I have, they are just really dirty.
I thought about washing them in the machine....but is is kind of cold.
Could I just stick them in the dryer with like cold air to them to not shrink?

Don't do wash machines. Mix some detergent, tad bit of bleach with warm water. Using a brush ( scud brush preferrably new or very clean)dip it into your cleaning agent and scrub hard. This should remove any and all dirt while also cleaning the soles making them new-like again. Remove any cleaning agent from the shoe with a clean towel and allow them to air dry. I have been using this method since I was a Marine. If you have white strings place them in the water and allow them to soak. Once your shoes are done, remove the strings from the water, wash them in your hands in a back and forth motion as if you were washing your hands. Rinse under warm water and let dry. You can toss them in the dryer afterward also.

Okay, yeah I think i will do that.
So the dryer won't shrink them or melt the foam or what have you?
    Thanks.

It is getting cold up here in Maine, so air drying would take days.. haha.

Try a white eraser The good kind, if not try a magic eraser (Mr clean). So far, it has worked for me to remove any dark scuffs from my white runners

I've taken some white slip ons from vanns and thrown them in the washer and never had problems. otherwise when I had to do stunts and had comps we always had to have the cleanest shoes possible, those we would clean with hand and buff out any scrapes and crap on them as we were also check over by the staff and the meets to make sure we didn't bring crap onto the floor.

A washer on the gentle cycle will not hurt white cloth shoes....a dryer with heat will shrink them a bit in my experiences.

Wash them with detergent in the washing machine and leave them in front of your fridge to dry. I've always done this and never had any shrinkage problems.

Try Oxy-Clean with a soft bristle brush, it works well for most stains and general grime.

I thought he was married? Unless the black belt, ex-marine guy finally stole her away. Maybe she's cleaning his shoes?

Dude, a lot of us FOG's grew up wearing Converse All Stars, and when they got too dirty for our mom's to tolerate, they went into the washing machine.
My equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself.

Dude, wouldn't it had been easier to just google a fix for your problem ?
Airing all these little woes of yours isn't doing yourself any favors. Be it as it may, I would have never bought white cloth shoes to truck around the dirt in to begin with. Just sayin' is all. Toss 'em.

Ajax mixed with warm water and lightly scrub with a soft brush. Gonna have to get them soaking wet. Rinse VERY well and let air dry. This has always worked for me.
