Marantz NR 1501 50 x 5

Which one do you think should i get for those polk??

By the way.... and sorry if the questions dumb but I read the logitech z5500 is 505 rms total and these polk are 50 rms per channel, right? Do you think a system like the logitech could give me better sound?

Again sorry, I dont know anything about it.... thank you everyone

I had the Z-5500s for 4 years and loved them for what they were. Considering the Polk and Logitech systems are crossed over at similar pts (~120 - 130hz) they are very similar. The Logitech will have a much stronger sub, but the big thing is that you'll be bound to the Logitech control pod - which remains the same all through these years. You can't connect the system to a receiver - and the control pod is limited to spdif, dolby digital, dts, prologic 2, and perhaps dts neo if I remember correctly.

I think the RM 705 + one of the receivers is a better long term option.

As for the receivers, I'd check the specs carefully for each and go w/ whichever looks like the most bang for the buck - both good brands. Looks like there is a $150 difference between the 2. If $400 is within your budget, the Denon AVR-1611 would be a better comparison. Also Pioneer VSX-1020-k.
ALL BOXED UP for a while until I save up for a new place :(

    Home Theater:
    KEF Q900s / MIT Shotgun S3 / MIT CVT2 ICs | KEF Q600C | Polk FXi5 | BJC Wire | Signal / AQ ICs | Shunyata / Pangea PCs | Pioneer Elite SC 57 | Parasound NC2100 Pre | NAD M25 | Marantz SA8001 | Schiit Gungnir DAC | SB Touch

    2 Channel:
    Polk LSi9 (xo mods), Polk DSW MicroPro 2000 sub | NAD c375BEE | W4S DAC1 | SB Touch | Marantz SA-8001 | MIT AVt 2 | Kimber Hero / AQ / Signal ICs | Shunyata / Signal PCs

IMHO, comparing Polk speakers and Logitech is like comparing apples and oranges. IMHO, Logitech speakers are a notch below HTIBs while Polk speakers are a notch above HTIBs. If you get a decent price for the RM705 and if you want some that has minimal ressemblance to an HT set-up you should go for the RM705. IMHO, pairing Logitech speakers with a receiver is a waste of money. Logitech speakers are for people that want some cheap to go with computers and shouldn't be considered for Home Theater.

BTW; never fall for power ratings as it is only a small aspect of a speakers and is often abused for marketting purpose (over rated).

    Cheers!

i personally would do the the denon, had good experience with them. I believe that one also does only HDMI output, So no matter what input signal you give it Standard, S-video, or Comp. They all come out of the hdmi. Which is nice 1 wire. But your talking about the some company too. Denon and Marantz is the same equipment. It's Like Chevy and GMC. Marantz being GMC.

Thank you all for your advices...

My living bedroom is about 15x10, its quite small, you guys think these RM 705 are not enough to fill the room? They're 50 rms each channel and you can get them at amazon for $250

If someone knows a better set for about the same price, please let me know

PD: found these from yamaha http://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-NS-SP1800BL-5-1-Channel-Theater-Speaker/dp/B001AVRD62/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1286228633&sr=8-1

those vs the RM 705, what do you think??

    Thanks

I have the RM705 set up in a open living room 19'x15', but open to a kitchen and a dining area making it 19'x25' with the kitchen even deeper. The sound is more than enough. I looked at those Yamahas because of the price as well. I tested them against the polks at Frys. The Polks were $250 at 50% off while the Yamahas were $200 (no sale). Well there is a reason the Polks were still $50 more even on sale. They were much better than the Yamahas. Speach was much clearer and had that distictive ding, while the Yamahas were very muddy. It was a no brainer.
