Probably going to be buying a 2011 Acadia tomorrow

Went in to the dealership yesterday looking. Found one we liked a lot. Talked about financing and what trade in value would be on the wife's 04 civic.

He came back to us and said $3,000 trade in value. I almost told him he's full of ****...but I didn't. I told him the car is worth $5000 for trade in, easily. For her car, trade in value is between good at $5600 and fair at $4700 on KBB. They kept coming back at "well were going to have to replace the tires and the windshield. Tires are like $100/each." That's when I stopped him. What "KBB" considers fair says "might need to have tires and windshield replaced." I told him tires are no where near $100/each for a civic with stock 15" wheels. More like $60...and thats if I get it from discount tire, I'm sure a dealership could replace the windshield and front tires (the back ones are fine, theyre just over a year old) for under $250...easily. At that point I was pissed that they tried to low ball us like that and all they could come back with was tires and windshield. I work for State Farm now and I'm trying to develop some contacts at the dealership (and I've had problems with their service department before) or else this conversation probably would've headed a lot more south.

We told them where we wanted to be at for our payments and so the salesman went back to talk to his financing people and he came back and got the price to be in our price range...because they extended the term another year and financing jumped up from 1.9 to 3.9. At that point I knew the deal was off.

So I gave him my number told him the rate, term, and price I wanted for trade in and told him to call me when he wanted to do business. Not even 10 minutes later he called back and said they could do it for what I asked, but still weren't lowering the price of the car itself, but they would do $5,000 trade in.

I do get some sort of discount for working for at State Farm. I think its going to equate to about $1200 or so. So with a $2800 down payment, it'll put us right where our payments were going to be...so we're both pretty excited.

The only thing this thing is missing is the garage door opener...you have to spend an extra $4k on the next level up for that...not worth it.

So if anyone can find a part number for this particular panel, that'd be effin sweet...I have no idea where to start looking online...and I'm not sure if it would be reasonable to get it at the dealership.

Be cheaper to just use the garage door opener that came with your garage door.
Gut feeling is that it'd be $900+ for that panel at a dealership.

You didn't get the Acadia because it comes with a Premium Bose Sound System, did you ? ;)

I know if you get the whole system its fairly expensive, I dont want that, I just want the panel. I can hard wire the garage door opener in, I just want it to look as factory as possible. So if I can get the factory panel with the factory buttons, that's all I need to make it work.

No blose system in this one...

Junkyard brother. Im sure there are a couple sitting in one of those.

The Acadia is a badass looking ride. We looked at them when we were shopping for a bigger car. The only reason we went with the Edge was the fleet discount I get thru my job. $1500 discount and no interest. Couldnt pass that up.

I have always liked the Acadia. I haven't seen many on the road around here, but did stop at Carmax once and gave it a look. It's a nice looking ride for sure and from what I hear they are nice to drive as well. Hope you enjoy it.

That's probably what I'm going to end up doing. Crappy thing is around here, the junk yards dont have many newer vehicles.

My job offers a discount as well, I guess we'll see how much when we go by tomorrow. We could get 0% interest if we did a 36 month term, but we cant afford an $830/month note. We could get by with that for 10/12 months of the year...but we know something always ends up coming up...so rather be safe than sorry.

    I think this is it:

But I don't need all the other crap. I just need the buttons and the plastic piece itself. I'm sure all the lights and crap are the same where I could just pop it out of the old one and into the new one...I guess I just might talk to the dealership and see what they say...and then call the junk yards.

I just got a garage door opener from Home Depot ($30 bucks).

It's quicker and easier to program than a universal remote for a TV, and it has 2 buttons so I can control our garage door and the one at my mom's for whenever I go visit.

Get a keychain garage door opener. The ones in the car are a bad idea. Most of them work with the ignition off. So a burglar could break into the car parked in your driveway and open your garage. And if you leave the door from your home into your garage open, have easy access to your home.

And I'll be glad to give them a one way ticket to the morgue.

I have the garage door opener...I just dont want it clipped to the visor. I want it to look factory. My bike has the same setup. Garage door opener is in the tail section. I hit a button that I installed on the bike, it opens the door. I just wanted to do so as factory-looking as possible. I don't even want the garage door opener part from the factory, all I need is the buttons. I've heard the range on the factory installed one is pretty ****.

I sell cars for a living and can tell you that based on what you stated in this thread that you are getting hosed... walk away.

Never buy a car on payment because they can massage numbers any way they need to to make it appear to be a sweet deal. Ask to see the invoice and then offer a couple hundred above that, pointing out that you are being genreous for allowing them to keep their holdback money because you know what that is too. (holdback is the extra money the dealer gets to keep because they get to save interest payments on the car if they sold it before it had been on the ground for 90 days or so...) And hold firm on the 5k for your trade and for the 1.9 interest rate. This should save you a couple extra grand and get your payment even lower than you were planning for.

If the dealer says forget it, find another dealer and fight for the same thing. Bottom line is don't let them take advantage of you.

Just a heads up as well (another State Farm employee here) dont forget we do have an internal credit union. They are offering a 3.24% rate on all loans up to 30k (not that its a awesome rate, but its less than they were offering). Although Nooshinjohn's advice is probably much much better lol...

That's great advice. I've always gone in there telling them I want $X a month for X number of years. I've always got OK deals I thought but I'll definitely remember this next time.

I was going to say the same thing as noosh, As soon as you state what your payment is/was on your current vehicle or say, we have to have it at this payment.
they know they have you. It's a moot point what your old payment was, or what you wanna pay. They will never get your "perfect payment" always alittle more, and if possible stay at 5 year loans, just my personal experience with 2 previous 6 year loans. its a long time, more interest and the warranty runs out in 5 years in some cases. this day and age and economy 1.9 -3.9 is pretty good. certainly not a deal breaker IMO

(Possibly) better yet: Get your financing before you get to the dealer. I did this on my last car loan. My credit union was able to get me a rate lower than my mortgage rate.

This is not much of a factor with incentivised rates from the manufacturer being in play. If you want to shop the rate, that is always good advice, but the bank will lend what you ask them to and are not there to make certain you got the lowest price. Get the price first, then shop the rate.

Here is a list of holdback amounts based on manufacturer...
Acura 3% of the Base MSRP
    Audi No holdback
    BMW No holdback
Buick 3% of the Total MSRP
Cadillac 3% of the Total MSRP
Chevrolet 3% of the Total MSRP
Chrysler 3% of the Total MSRP
Dodge 3% of the Total MSRP
Ford 3% of the Total MSRP
GMC 3% of the Total MSRP
Honda 2% of the Base MSRP
HUMMER 3% of the Total MSRP
Hyundai 2% of the Total Invoice
Infiniti 1% of the Base MSRP
Isuzu 3% of the Total MSRP
    Jaguar No Holdback
Jeep 3% of the Total MSRP
Kia 3% of the Base Invoice
    Land Rover No Holdback
Lexus 2% of the Base MSRP
Lincoln 2% of the Total MSRP
Mazda 2% of the Base MSRP
Mercedes-Benz 3% of the Total MSRP
Mercury 3% of the Total MSRP
    MINI No Holdback
Mitsubishi 2% of the Base MSRP
Nissan 2% of the Total Invoice
Pontiac 3% of the Total MSRP
    Porsche No Holdback
Saab 2.2% of the Base MSRP
Saturn 3% of the Total MSRP
    Scion No Holdback
Subaru 2% of the Total MSRP (Amount may differ in Northeastern U.S.)
Suzuki 3% of the Base MSRP
Toyota 2% of the Base MSRP (Amount may differ in Southern U.S.)
Volkswagen 2% of the Base MSRP
Volvo 1% of the Base MSRP

When calculating holdback, use the following guidelines.

If a holdback is calculated from the:

Total MSRP: consumers must include the MSRP price of all options before figuring the holdback.
Base MSRP: consumers must figure the holdback before adding desired options.
Total Invoice: consumers must include the invoice price of all options before figuring the holdback.
Base Invoice: consumers must figure the holdback before adding desired options.

As you can see, your dealer has at least a grand in profit already, and you knew nothing about it. Go for the invoice price and not a cent more.

We got the car. They gave us a few hundred dollars over supplier pricing. They would have given it to us right at it but they had bought the car from another dealership and had already lost their hold back on it. They threw in a couple other things I asked for though.

Hopefully I'll get some business out of it as well on my end too.

That's easy, stock locations. It may not be perfect imaging for something like a competition but if it's just for tunes sounding great then they will work fine.

Right. I should have been more specific. Back speakers will most likely stay stock and only be on when we have passengers. Front speakers will be the SR's.

The amp and sub is where ill have to be creative. There's a compartment in the floor in the back which is the obvious place, but I want to use as little as possible because I like to carry other stuff there. First aid it, jumper cables, etc.
