No surprise....Paypal now charges the same percentage fees for every transaction. Even a money owed and a gift.

    Link to annoucement?

And are you sure you didn't get the fee because sender used credit card based funds, rather than instant bank transfer or cash balance within Paypal account?

    You're selling Paypal  :p

Figured they'd catch up and start tacking on fees torwards gifts since that's how some prefer their method of receiving/sending payment to avoid the buyer/seller 3% fee.

Its free as long as you are pulling from a balance, or directly from a linked bank account. If you only have your account tied to a CC (or debit card), then you will be charged the fee. The way around it is to transfer money (via the debit card) to your paypal (which unfortunately can take a day or two to post), and then send the money as a gift.

When people were sending me payment as gifts, I got a notice from paypal telling me that they were going to penalize me if I kept receiving gifts.

I usually tell people to do it as 'money owed'.

I'll offer you $50 for Paypal. Get back to me via PM so that we can get the process started. My attorneys will then get in touch with your attorneys and we can sign the paperwork transferring Paypal to my ownership.

EDIT: Either that, or I will offer you the Canada in exchange for Paypal.

The problem I have with ebay/paypal is that there is a difference in making money and being greedy. It used to be on ebay that you could pay however the seller would allow, ie. Cash, personal check, money order, credit card, paypal, bidpay, a couple chickens, whatever. Then Ebay bought paypal, and now force you to use it. So not only do they charge a listing fee, which you pay regardless of if your thing sells. If it does sell, they charge you again, an even larger final value fee. Then they charge you for the "privilege" of being able to accept paypal, which you are forced to use. They also don't allow you to charge extra to cover the paypal fee. It's a f'n scam.
