Well, they always say what can go wrong will go wrong at the worst possible time. Well mr. Murphy you are sure out to cause issues for me.

My wife and I are supposed to leave for our honeymoon tomorrow in the Galapagos Islands off the coast of Ecuador. Our wedding was Sunday and it's been all but impossible to make it through the week due to the excitement of the trip. The only way onto the islands is flying through Quito (where this is taking place) and in our case part of our trip is a tour of the city for a day and then we get onto a cruise ship to take us to the islands.

Today's flights were canceled but as of now my flight tomorrow is still on. Our cruise line is "monitoring the situation with no changes in the itinerary yet".

Cross your fingers for me guys, I really want to go see some blue footed boobies and big F*$&ing tortoises!

I spent a couple of semesters in Quito. And we were warned that this was always a real possibility. It's just the way things are in that area. If memory serves me correctly, an attempted coup was staged the very next year.

That being said... it is an absolutely gorgeous city and country. I know you'll be spending most of your time in Galapagos, but there is so much more to do there.

Hope everything gets back to relative normalcy before your trip. Though a government declared "week long state of emergency" does not bode well.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

Well because the trip starts tomorrow I'm getting the sick feeling that this wont happen... It makes me happy and proud to be an American but pisses me off at the same time.

Trip has been canceled... airport is still being occupied by their military and celebrity gave us a 2 year span to use a voucher for a different trip. Working with the airlines to see what's available and take a different trip or get refunds so not as much money is tied up...

So, the police are revolting because they did not get promotions and bonuses? What ever happened to old fashioned bribery as an income suplement?

Well, it's been an entire year since this fiasco took place... and now that the year has passed, I leave Friday morning for this trip!
Hopefully this year people stay under control down there long enough for me to fly in and get to the islands.
