You can always start there. For that kind of money, I would want them to be in excellent shape and or to have some upgrades.Polk Audio SDA SRS 2.3TL

If they are in excellent shape, and you really want a set of SDA speakers, I'd say go for it (especially if they have the original packing materials, interconnect cable, and literature). You can always wait for a better pair, but you might end up waiting a 1-2+ years before you find the model that you want, in the condition that you want, at the price that you want... not to mention being close enough to you to be able to go get them!
Regarding waiting for the larger models, how big is the room that you plan on putting them in? If it's a small room, getting the 2.3tl's might actually be the better option...
(And as Earthy mentioned, if they have upgrades, that can be a substantial bump in price. Replacing the 6 tweeters with RDO-194's would be $300 by itself.) -
RDO-198'sPlease. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

RDO-198's
Ah, right, RDO-198's. I was thinking of my regular 2.3's (which still need a set of 194's). -
Too cheap, better buy them now before someone else does.Political Correctness'.........defined

They would be in my living room which is about 22L x 18w. They would take the place of my modded 1c's. The 2.3 are all original no mods done tweeds and drivers are all original. I would probably end up getting rid of mine if I got them

I paid a tad more than that for mine without any upgrades but mine were in excellent shape. But...I really wanted them. It was well worth for me!!

Don't want to hijack but rather piggyback, so....is $700 for a pair of unrestored/unmodded 2.3's in very good condition a solid deal, or too much? I'd rather have TL's or better yet some 1.2TL's. If you can get 2.3TL's, do it! They are WAY better than you think, as we all don't have a ballroom to put the 1.2TL's in. They are truely the gem of the line-up, the bigger brother sounds worse unless you have a massive room to use them in. Just my 2 cents from experience, and F1nut was right when he told me "Upgrade the tweets and XO's and you are in for a real treat"

All good info! My Pops has the 1.2TL's in a 20' X 30' room and when you crank it up it's still to small of a space. They are truely something...
Also, $700 is about right for the 2.3's so there is no real deal to be had there. -
Thanks for the info Lasareath & Hamatym...I'm going to pass on the 2.3's unless I can bring him down to $500 or less, then I might bite. I have a suspicion that I won't be truly happy with anything but TL's though. I had a pair of RTA 11T's that i picked up back in `90 (best speakers I ever had) but always wanted SDA's driven by Carver amps, etc. What passes for hifi and home theater these days is laughable...over the last 20 years I had forgotten what quality sounded like! This board has been the main catalyst for me to start delving into real audio again, there seems to be a lot of great folks with an unending amount of collective knowledge...a very cool audio community!
The room I have my current setup in is 12x16 so I think the 2.3TL's are the way to go however my basement room is 24x16 which I think might be a future stage...anyway, thanks again for the help guys. And Lasareath, your page had me positively fascinated...great work on the restoration of those beauties!! Thanks again guys...2 channel rig: MMF 2.2 turntable, Adcom GFP-715, Adcom GFA-555, Adcom ACE-515, Carver M-1.0t, Denon 5900 CD/SACD, SDA-SRS 2.3s (Zardoss modded), AQ Diamondback & King Cobra IC's and AQ Type 4 speaker cables
