Think one was sold back and forth once or twice on the forum.
Heard nothing but absolutely great things about it. One came up in the Chicago CL for only $120 (same exact one as the one you're posting) but I didn't know about it until it was too late!
IIRC, they were always offered as a passive subwoofer. Wonder how much internal volume the plate amp takes up since he installed one into the cabinet.Truck setup

I've known a couple of folks who had one & loved it.TNRabbit

I have one with the better woofers (mega woofers)
I love the thing, tons of good clean, low output...
But the fact he painted the phase plugs yellow and red reduces their worth to me to about 100 bucks- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Oh yeah there is not a plate amp you can buy (including that 1000 watt PE amp) that can push that sub right.
I am using a Crown XLS1000 bridged and the sub still gives it a run for the money sometimes lol- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
So is $500 a bit much?

$500 with the amp seems O.K. Depends how good the paint looks.

I have the Tall Boy version and it freaking rocks. I will be adding a couple more at some point along the way.
When I can find them -

Hi Leroy,
I am a VMPS dealer and have been placing VMPS Subs and Speakers for many years.
Brand new here is how that sub stacked up:
LARGER SUB = $649
Megawoofer upgrade = $140
1000w sub amp = $399
================
MSRP = $1238
Street price might have been $1k
"IF" the amp is the 1000w factory plate amp and it is not damaged, then $500 is a fair price, but mask off the cones and paint the phase plugs black again.
This SUB can be tuned by adding and subtracting putty to the 15" passive radiator. Chances are it is out of tune.
Tuning synchronizes the PR's reaction to the active 12" and 15" and reduces distortion. If well tuned you can get distortion into the single digits which is LOW for a sub.
If you get it right you may hear BASS texture and harmonics you didn't know existed.
And if the previous owner hasn't over driven it, the output can be substantial. It IS NOT a boom box, but it can rattle the shelves, walls, and windows.
It is one of the most "musical" subs you can buy and will (IMHO) best anything up to $5000 in the Musical Bass dept. This is its strong suit.
If you get it and have any questions, e-mail me and I'll tell you how to tune it. -
I wouldn't buy it.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.
