I have the Denon 3311 paired w/ the RTi A7s - I had a Yamaha RX-V663 before, and I think the Denon tempers the brightness of the A7s a bit better. Plus the Denon has been rock solid thus far - firmware updates have been regular, and the thing has a ton of features. It powers my center and surround speakers and seems to have plenty of juice.

I will say this, though. If you want your speakers to reach their potential, you'll want to get a high current power amplifier (200 - 250 watts x 2). Though the A7s sound good with the 3311 alone, there's a big difference in sound quality after adding an amp (connected to the receiver's pre-out ports).

In retrospect, I probably would have bought a less expensive receiver with pre-outs and then the power amp that I have (parasound amp). Otherwise, I love my Denon receiver - even though everyone here is a Pioneer fan.

Well that's my 2 cents, one Indian to another :)
ALL BOXED UP for a while until I save up for a new place :(

Sameer, welcome to Club Polk. There's no need to be concerned about getting a "match" for your fine RTiA7s. Well-designed amplifiers, such as those in the receivers which you're considering, amplify transparently without adding an audible sonic coloration. As to the amount of maximum power available, the units which you're considering can also be considered as essentially equal. Either of them should have plenty of power for driving the RTi7s at safe(to your hearing) listening levels. By using more power to play at very high sound levels, the RTi7s and other quality speakers have the "potential" to cause permanent hearing damage. This is one potential which should remain unrealized.

Make your choice on the basis of features and price. I suggest the Denon(or similar Onkyo models)primarily because of the Audyssey MultEQ auto calibration and room equalization system, which is more advanced than the Yamaha system. Whichever way you decide, you'll enjoy great sound through your Polks.

As a rabid Pioneer fan, who came in from the Onkyo heat. I can only say that Pioneer is the BEST, actually from the Elite model VSX32 on up, and the 1120 from the standard series. To all you others on here who use Yamaha, Onkyo, Sony, Denon et al, I realize you are ill and advise you to get help.....in the form of PIONEER......You will soon feel much better....!!

Concurring with John K, I believe both receivers would match well with your speakers. Both have pre-outs, allowing you the flexibility to add power amps to your system to drive your speakers if you so desired. Having greater power or juice can often times bring clarity to your speaker (or what some would proclaim "it makes my speakers sing like never before"). But all these qualities are listener-dependence and subjective. Yamaha uses YPAO and Denon uses Audyssey calibration - both good in their own right. So why not try to take a listen at a dealer if possible.

Now if the musical side of your equation is about equal wrt to both, then you should look into the HT side - your "40% movie." Both receivers are packed with features but the Denon is a 2010 model while the Yammy 1900 is of 2008 vintage. The Denon has 6 HDMI inputs and 2 outputs. The Yammy has 4 HDMI inputs and 1 outputs. How many inputs do you project to need now and in the near future?

The Yammy weighs 37 lbs and the Denon 28.7lbs - there is a school of thought that weight can roughly translate to amp output power based but another school of thought feels that modern receiver are designed to be more power efficient, hence lighter in relative weight. Check out the receiver's benchmark tests on the web - ecoustic.com is one such site.

On amazon, the Denon cost almost twice as much as the Yamaha (a great part due to the Yamaha being an older model). Most who make receiver comparison often, but not always, select models within the same price range. Not sure what the pricing is like over in India but if it is similar to that in US, perhaps you can cast a wider net on your choices.

Check out the owner's thread for the respective receivers on forums like avsforums, and you will be well rewarded with useful info on both receivers to assist with your decision making.

    JMHO.

Personally as someone who has the older model (Rx v1800 and Rti8) i'd say go Denon. I've had Denon's before and they're great. The Yamaha is a fantastic receiver but I personally don't like it paired with my Rti's due to them both being very "detailed" on the upper end.

I may have to agree with the folks here recommending a Pioneer or Elite AVR. I have the Yamaha 663 also, externally amped out now and stuck with the YPAO room eq system. About 3 months ago I looked into retiring the 663 and getting a pre/pro (like a Integra,Denon etc)with the Audyssey MultEq system ),but backed off because I read in various forums that people had so many problems using the Audyssey auto room eq system along with subwoofer eq systems like DSPeaker antimode 8033 or Velodyne SMS-1 and maybe other models. Seems like the people with Pioneer or Elite units using the MCACC autoeq had great results with other sub eq setups. If getting the most out of a quality sub isn't necessary to your listening experience, disregard this post, lol.

I say go with the Yammie. You state you are FROM India, does that mean you live there or you are from there and live here now. If you are in the U.S. Newegg had the 1900 for something like $589 over the weekend with a free I-pod hook up. I have older RT series speakers (RT1000, RT16, RT12, RT7, RT5) I also own a couple of Yamaha receivers and a Denon. With my stuff the Denon is very Bright and the Yamaha has a much more natural sound (humm I think I saw that printed somewhere "natural sound" LOL)At the price of the Yamaha in the U.S. I think that makes it easy. Yamaha has great movie DSP and works for me in 2 channel.
I don't know what you are using now, if you are upgrading none of it will be bad.
    System:
    Samsung LN46C630
    Receiver: Yamaha RX-V1
    DVD/Blu: Denon 2910/Playstation 3
    Front mains: RT16
    Front presence: F/X 500i
    Center: CS400
    Rear surrounds: RT1000p
    Rear center: RT7
    Subwoofer: PSW505 X 2

    Marantz 2252B

Isn't the 3311 Denon's latest line? I would look at Yamaha's new Adventage series, better video processing and features than the 1900.

I don't know much about Denon, but +1 to avoiding the RTi/RX-V combo. Both fine products when used separately, IMHO.
