I picked one up on the trip back from Polkfest! A display model...with, unfortunately, NO REMOTE....

Searched the internet for remotes....87.95--a bit steep.

But one site claims the remote for the Sony BDP S350 at about 30 dollars has all the functions of the higher remote..except back lighting and Headphone Volume and surround controls??

So I may pick that up from Sony. So far I've only been able to play a DVD and some CDs because I can't reset anything? The DVDs are too grainy...probably because of 'settings' I can't change. But, surprisingly enough, this is a 'passable' CDP?

And you have to love the ES warranty! Though I don't really think the unit is worth much more than 400?

For that price, or a little more than the 30 bucks on the other remote you can find a nice harmony remote. I haven't experienced much grain in the playback of mines. Iron Man 2 was simply beautiful and other blurays looked great also.

That thought had crossed my mine. Does anyone have any experience with the 30+ dollar tier of Harmony remotes?

    Thanks!

    Thanks Leroy,

Nice offer. But I think I'm just going to get the Harmony 300 for about 35...their site says it can run this player and everything else I have in the Home Theater as well..which isn't much....a Motorola Cable box, Toshiba HDTV, Onkyo TXSR-805, Philips DVP, and the NEW Sony....minus the Playstation 3 which is Bluetooth tech.

Probably pick one up in NH on the way back from Boston. In Beantown, at the moment for the weekend.

Wonder how owners are liking the Sony 1000, just bought one today but there's no need to take it out of the box (no AVR/HT) :p

If only the magnolia store would put the 400 disk changer on clearance for 100 bucks.

Yeah lol isn't that like a 1200-1500 player?

Still, the Sony looks pretty. Think it'll sit aside until I grab an AVR. It'll be like X-mas once I slowly gather components and decide to put everything together.

It is an excellent player. I like it better than the Pioneer Elite BDP-23FD.
The DVD upscaling and picture size formatting is superb.

    Thanks :)

I've read that several people like it better than the PS3 as well, but if you like it more than your Elite then it really speaks volumes. Again, I haven't tried it out myself and won't until later but we'll see. ;)

Went to my local Best Buy this afternoon. The salesperson told me that she was well aware of the 1000ES but that they didn't have any in stock and that none of the other San Diego Best Buys did either. She then told me that the 1000ES was 1.5 years old and that the basic $139 Sony they had in stock was comparable. I smiled and thanked her and left. :)

Least she didn't recommend you bundle that player with a Bose system
