Know what sucks about flying...

It's not the airlines, bag fees, or waiting in line. Even when your delayed within reason, I can understand...there are so many planes in the air at once over US airspace, and some many other variables, I can deal. No, its your fellow passengers. The rude, clueless, selfish folks who think they are the only people on the airplane. I got in around 2am this morning, and here are some tidbits from my flight yesterday.
1. Some a-hole delayed the flight because his tray table was not functioning properly. Thus, MX had to be called up while we were boarding to fix this guys tray table. Thank God, as the CG of the entire AC would have been thrown off if this guy couldn't rest his drink on the table.
2. Some b@tch old woman plowed right threw me in the isle as I was stowing my carry-on, as if I were invisible. When I said, "Excuse me, 'mam, she just kept going with no acknowledgment or apology.
3. The guy next to me held up the entire boarding process because he has to take of his jacket, tie, flip through all his manuals and electronic **** (Blackberry, keyboard, i-pad, printer, hard drive) before he sat down. He had people lined up from back of the plane out the door waiting for him.
4. While waiting for my bag on the carousel, 2 different people stepped directly in front of me in the 2 foot space between myself and the edge of the baggage carousel to just stand there. One of the people was the same b@tch from #2 above. I literally had to shove my way to grab my bag because she was oblivious of the other people around.

Sometimes I think the flying experience is a microcosm of what has happened to civility in our society...just my rant before I start the weekend.

Sounds bad man, I have flown probably about 5 times in my young life. All 4 were with parents but my 5th was probably the special one. I was flown to California for a car audio install. So it was first time to Cali first time flying solo and going through the whole boarding and check in thing myself. I have to say the overall excitement of the trip probably had me blinded from any rude behaver. But I have never heard of such rudeness. Hope your future flights are better.

That sucks. I've never had a problem. I specifically remember one flight because I was sitting to a nice old lady from California who insisted she thought I was in the military because I kept saying ma'am and she never hears that where she's from.

I've flown many times but never with such issues all in one flight.

    1) I remember that, when I was 15 or 16, I sat down on a plane with a new acquaintance and her little sister. In front of us sat a woman with an infant. The first 10 minutes doing nothing the baby was screaming and crying. A Lindt truffle or two apparently helped.

    2) I've had things smashed, et cetera. The worst was when I was taking a desktop computer through. I paid like $100 for the "privilege" and, when retrieving it, found that it got completely soaked and the box looked like it sat in a bath tub for a few hours. It probably did. I was thinking ahead and removed the hard drives (took them in my carry-on).

    3) Boarding I've had a person that stops in the first aisle to stick like 5 carry-ons in the overhead bins. Short and weak they were, they took like 3 minutes to do it while a lot of people were waiting behind them.

    4) I've run into old acquaintances at the airport before, incidentally to catch the same flight. Going back to story #1, what happened afterward was I ran to my connecting gate and asked a guy roughly my age to watch my spot for me. When I returned from the schei

    +1 Kev

I've flown maybe 15+ different times, over half of that by myself and it was always because of the other passengers that I've had bad experiences.

I travel on a regular basis. Me getting on a plane usually means at least 5 glorious weeks where I don't have to think about the strange/neurotic/egotistical/flaky people that I work with. Minor irritants like these folks in the plane or at the airport? It happens, so oh well. One moment of irritation, then they are gone from your life forever, so who cares? Missing/misplaced luggage is much more irritating, and even that I have a small amount of patience with.
True story: On one trip, there was this lady with a chihuahua. The lady who was assigned a seat next to her had an issue with it. So I chime in, "Ma'm, would you like to switch seats with me?" The lady gladly accepted. Flight attendants were elated and smiling. I just gave them a wink and took my new seat. The lady I was now sitting next to asked if she could put her dog and it's carrier under the seat in front of me in my foot space! I could have said, "No, I need my space" and I'm sure that would be the end of it. No problem. Me? I laughed and said, "hey, sure...I like dogs. I don't mind" (she was a larger person, and I'm just kinda average.) She talked a little too much, but oh well...I just smiled when I was tired and said, "I'm gonna get a little sleep" Now I could have reacted to any one of these things in a negative way. I chose to make the situation pleasant for everyone, because in turn it makes MY vacation pleasant for myself. I'm really easy going anyway, so it's in my nature to react this way.

One thing I heard once and always keep this in mind when I travel: Always travel with a sense of humor"

Believe me, you didn't ruin their travelling. Why let them ruin yours?

I check my humor in as baggage along with everything else.
Everything except my laptop bag. Clothes, tools, tolietries, keys, change, watch. Why does everyone have to drag everything they own on the damn plane. The laptop fits under the seat. The overheads are always filled by all those traveling gypsies that can't wait 5 minutes for checked luggage at the other end. I finally replaced my old toolcase, since the DFW airport security seems to think it's a gun case every time they see it.

I travel a good amount, the rudeness is there for sure.

The biggest thing about actually flying that I hate, is if you are near the bathroom, or not, if somebody takes a duece or just had Mexican the night before, the green fog has no where to go and just lingers forever in the plane cabin.

The worst is......................when you have an isle seat and the flight attendants target your elbow and seem to bump you with it every single pass by.

There is nothin enjoyable about flying. And yeah, I always go for the isle seat, and I always end up with a bruised elbow.

This is a timely thread....We just bought tickets last night to fly up to Seattle in a few weeks.

Since when is rudeness and selfishness limited to air travel? Anytime I'm around people, they're rude selfish asses. This is why I don't worry about the superbug that takes out 80+% of the population; who needs 'em.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.
