Velodyne Optimum 12 (wiring issues)
I dropped $999 on this sub, which is between $1399-$1499 just about everywhere I've looked - and once I get it set up the remote will not work.
Replaced the battery - nope -notta!
So I call Velodyne's customer service, and they had a tech on the line very quickly - A+ for that. The tech knows immediately what the issue is and tells me I need to pull the amp off the back because the wiring has come unplugged for the remote. When I asked if this was normal he tells me it happens all the time - that's how he knew what the issue was!!
Now I'm wondering why the hell Velodyne is charging the consumer so damn much for this sub with this kind of workmanship!! Not pleased at all that I had to perform this correction. On top of that, when I did pull the amp off the back, 3 other plugs instantly popped out and none of them would lock into place - the tech suggestion was to superglue them. WTF!!
The sub is not "knocking my socks off". It's not living up to the price tag, that's for sure!! It does sound smoother (not boomy) than the DEQ-r15 I replaced it for and the Polk PSW505 (but I only paid $250 for the Polky)
Now that I'm done ranting...ANY COMMENTS??

If you don't feel comfortable in pulling the amp, send it Velodyne. Is it still under warranty? How long ago did you buy it? Sometimes equipment, when shipped, is not handled very well, and stuff happens..
I had a problem with my dps-12's amp, and I did not want to pull the amp to ship it. I sent the sub to Velodyne, they replaced the amp, and all is well. You might want to shoot an email to Rob at Velodyne:

Yes it's still under warranty. I just got it this week.
I did pull the amp and reconnected the pins - just not feeling reassured that they are going to remain connected because they would not lock in place.
My biggest gripe is the fact that these sell for as much as $1499. Are people really getting what they pay for?
This is essentially my first Velodyne, as I exchanged the DEQ-15R after testing it out for a week. So, to have these issues when new to the product is really a let down - I've heard so much praise about Velodyne and this line.
Sholud I fell comfortable keeping this sub?
Would a Polk DSW MicroPro 4000 be a better choice? -

Exchange the Velodyne for another one.
You do get what you pay for, but you should never pay full retail price. We used to sell the DPS-12 at Circuit City for 699.99 - and my customers were very happy with paying that for a quality sub. I paid 235.00 for the DPS-12when it went to clearance status - brand new in a box.
I'm guessing you bought the Optimum locally - try it for 30 days, and if you are not satisfied, return it and buy an Epik. A friend of mine bought a Sentinel - it is incredible. And built in the US.

He bought it just based on reviews.
Right now, they have intro pricing on new product:
