I just wanted to say that polk rti8 sound effin fantastic with a 4ohm load via a tube amp

I always new rti8 had a bright sound but this slight weakness has turned into a major strength when hooked up to my integrated tube amp . The rti8 sound like a totally diff brand although I did get a slight boost in the lower bass the main advantage from the 4ohm load appears in the more dynamic mids and warmer highs

I feel that for a mid budget speaker they do an awesome job of disappearing when fed with the tubes ... I would even go so far as saying the disappear more than the martin logan do under the circumstances

The cones in the polks resolve more detail and have more dynamics in the highs than the martin logan does . I find the Logans loose alot of detail and become muddy in the bass dep when switching back to the solid state amp from the onkyo 607 .

This is all very strange and doesnt make sense to me

You aren't driving them at 4ohms, because they are 8 ohm speakers. That is unless you wired them in parallel, but I doubt this is the case. What you are experiencing is the magic of tube amplification. :D

I wonder why my martin logan sounds less accurate with my tube amp.... sure they now have bigger balls but why is the detail in the high frequencies masked ? Or why does the really low bass sound muddy

It seems that the rti8 improved in every department but the electrostats ionly improved in the midbass hmmmm....

You are trying to compare apples to oranges, Or trying to fit a square peg into a round hole, & it just doesn't work. Just stick with which ever one pleases your ears the most.

Its not realy apples to oranges because I'm not talking about the characteristics of the speakers ?

In the bass department the ML source's cone sounds sloppy but the polk does not when hooked up to the tube. When both speakers are hooked up to the onkyo the bass isnt as loud but its way tighter and more detailed

It seems to me that tube amps are most benificial when hooked up to a set of cones rather than an esl set of high end speakers

My guess is that your Polks are just easier to drive. Some speakers require a large amount of power before they start to sound their best. Just enjoy the sound ;)
