If you already have a good sub and good center like a CS400, would a CS1000p be much of a upgrade for a center channel speaker?

That's only 2.5 hours from me. I already have a CS350LS and SVS PB12-ISD. How would this compare? Not that I am really wanting it, I just need to know if I should be lusting after one.

Hard to say how much an improvement, if any, this speaker would provide over the 400i. My hope would be better mids since the powered "subwoofers" in the 1000p most likely don't put out much usable bass below 50hz.

I'm sure the Cs1000p sounds fine, maybe even great, but powered speakers are the last thing I want when buying older speakers. Hell, I don't like new powered speakers either.

I may agree with you but I really want to find out for myself.

Do we have a Polk underground railroad?

I started with the CS400 and upgraded to the CS1000P. There is a great deal of difference in the bass output, especially in male vocals. Definitely a good upgrade from the CS400. I hated to let mine go but the SRT center does a great job and isn't limited by a 100w internal amp.

The only drawback with the CS1000P is its weight. You need to have something to set it on that can handle 75lbs.

I disagree about buying used powered Polk speakers. Polk has great customer service and can fix just about any problem that comes up with their plate amps at reasonable rates.

I enjoy mine. I just did a test and unplugged the amp section while listening to some DD soundtrack and you definitely lose some 'umph' when the amplified sub's are shut off. Not a 'holy crap did you hear that?' type moment, but noticeable.
And most people dont realize it is a center, they think it is a cabinet for the tv to sit on.

I suspect with the crossover diverting the lows, taking the amp out of the loop just left the above crossover levels playing. Is it the only sub in the system?

    Earthy,
If that was meant for me, no I have a dedicated sub and was just trying it, meaning the center, without the amplifiers to the powered drivers of the center powered up to hear the difference. It was noticeable but not the deal breaker type. If the amps ever failed I could use it as a center with out them.
    I hope that made sense.

$150 for one in Orlando... I was thinking about it to go with my RTI10's but I have a CSi5 on the way which should be good enough.

Polk used to have great customer service when Ken was still in the service department, he's retired from working there now. Kim at Baltimore HQ said Art could fix my Polk PSW1200 sub amp that was blowing fuses for the second time in it's life. 18 days after it was delivered with no word from the service department I had to contact Helen at the HQ. Arturo at the service department then contacted me saying he couldn't fix it and wanted to throw it away (my shipping money out the window). I asked him to send it back anyway and when I got it, that's when I discovered good ole Arturo dropped it on a concrete floor. He destroyed it and didn't tell me. UPS didn't damage it, my shipping box was perfect. So then Arturo and Gil (service) Helen and Kim (HQ)...they all just ignored me. So there customer service is a joke now. I've had a ton of Polk speakers, but I'll never buy another after what they did.

I went from a CS400I to a CS1000P and it was a big improvment...watching the lord of the rings with the deep male voices was incredible. I wouldn't sell mine for 400.00....Not sure how much it would take, I don't know of a better center.
