Hi! New computer/old Polk owner here. Or somthing.

Does anybody remember the original Polk ads that ran in several magazines back in the pre-surround sound era? The ones with Mathew Polk standing next to this speaker cabinet taller than him and just about as wide as a VW microbus? I think he called it the Studio Reference Series.

Am I showing my age?

Those were mind-blowing when I was a kid. I still talk about them. When I bought my CS400 and RT55's I know I was swayed by those old ads. Back then I also drooled all over a Dual CS5000 turntable with a Shure V-15 type V cart! I love digital audio, but vinyl is still cool.

I finally bought a used Dual later, not that it gets much use.:p

    Hi:

I had a Dual 1009, turntable weighed a ton. I gave it to a lady friend some years back and she dropped it. Didn't work too well after that.

Guess what I stumbled on over the weekend...an old brochure/catalog circa 1985. I've attached a JPG of the picture I think you're talking about.

Ah, I am so cynical, and yet... That advertising stuck in your head. What do you know?

When I first came here, from ad agencies, I needed a little convincing to go for the Matt Polk as Speaker Specialist ad campaign we had going. But a combination of Paul's enthusiasm for it, and the fact that it was pretty unique and geared to our message, changed my mind. And understanding that the image of Matt and that lab coat is so wacky that it sticks in your mind even after all these years... Well, that's the NIKE/COKE/IBM/APPLE advertising award right there, isn't it?

We have one of those giant speakers back in the hallway here. It's HUGE! And Matt doesn't wear lab coats anymore, unfortunately. Sometimes, he doesn't wear anything.

    :D

I was really really facinated by those huge monsters.
    **Polk trivia**
    What were they called?
    Were they actual production models?
    What was the price tag?
and who owns these babies other than Mathew himself?
    Anyone
