SDA 2A and Monitor 5 questions

Hi, first post here...cool site!
I have recently picked up 2 pairs of Polk speakers. A beat pair of SDA 2As that need the connection cable and when I push the passive woofer the other speakers move but quickly not slow as it seems they should. I have the same condition with the monitor 5 pair also. So I guess I need to seal the cabinets somehow? Any tips there would be greatly appreciated.
Also, I have a bit of blasphemy to report: I want to put the SDA 2As sideways(!) about 3" off the floor...I know this is not ideal, but I live in an A frame cabin and these will be sort of like a bench along the low edge of the slanted walls of the cabin. In this application should I even bother with the connection cable? (which I don't have)
I will be powering these with my Kenwood KR7600 which has 80 watts per channel and I want to have both speakers on potentially, but I am worried about the load especially if these are both 4 ohm speakers. Also there is that common ground worry before I go for the connection cable on the SDA 2As.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts.:)

Sell the SDA 2's if they are going to lay on their side. Pointless to have these if you're not using them even close to how they were intended.
Welcome to CP BTW.

ok, so before I sell them, how should I fix them? Of course I still will try the SDAs in my unorthodox arrangement. If they sound better than the 5s I think I will keep them anyway. Sorry about wasting their potential, I don't want to offend the purists, but I still gotta believe these will sound better than all the cheap modern speakers that I have been comparing. I want some of that bass that all the modern speakers etc in the $200 range don't seem to have.

sda2's won't amaze you with their bass output..that's not their mission..they will make very deep clean bass, but not at the expense of all the other frequencies at the party. get some throw-away cerwin vega's or big box spkrs w a 15" woofer;) that will give you big bass...at least the illusion thereof -
Keep in mind I bought my first stereo in the 70's and I'm still using the same Kenwood amp. I used to have ADS L710 speakers but they need refoaming. So I'm really just looking for that rocking 70's sound again,,vinyl etc. Not the super bass that comes with a special bass box. I know that sound and it sounds fake to me. At the same time all the new speakers in the $200 range sound crappy to me. So when I stumbled upon these Polks I thought I found what I was looking for. I still do, but I guess I'll figure it out one way or another..they sound great by the way even with no connection cable so what the hell! If anyone could direct me to instructions on re sealing the cabs, that would be cool. Thanks!

I don't know where you got or how much your paid for your SDA 2's, but in my honest opinion you'd be better off with a pair of monitor 10s....
The perceived bass of mine being pushed by a modest yamaha C600 integrated amp is pretty sweet.
I haven't tried them flopped over on their side (as i have no need to) - but as these aren't intended to be SDA type Polks i suppose i could try it just for kicks....
But you should keep in mind the rule of thumb that your tweeter height will be less than optimal if it's significantly lower than your seated listening level...
cheers and welcome to cult polk.

I would have the 710s refoamed. Their bass is not as deep as some but they don't have a built in bass hump and their bass is rock solid.TO ERR IS HUMAN. TO FORGIVE IS CANINE.

+1
There are other vintage Polks, and other brands, that would better serve your purpose. Keep in mind that you really won't be getting significantly more, and certainly not better, sound than you would with Monitor 7s.
How high is the roof on that wall?

Listen to them as they should be set up. If they are pin/blade connect magivre a cable and see if SDA is your taste. If so, sell and buy some CRS sda that will fit better. If not sell for something else or some monitor 7/10. I love the monitor 7s I have. And yes, I chose to list my 2Bs for sale before selling the monitor 7s I have.
