I just baught 4 of these to put in the ceiling of my room. The room size is 16'x22'. My question is do I need to insulate the ceiling cavity behind the speaker?

At one time I had a pair of these for the rears in a 7.1 set up. I bought a package of fiberglass insulation sheets that were couple inches thick x 2' x 4' at the local home repair store and made a five sided box out of it. I install this in the ceiling so it covered the speaker once installed. Because its soft fiberglass, it was easy to push through the hole in the ceiling and position. I think you'll need something to keep sound from reverberating through the area above the ceiling and to minimize the sound carry to other parts of the house.
