Here's a helmet cam video of climbing a tall broadcast tower. Scariest video I've ever seen so not for faint of heart!

My favorite part is that he's that far up and doesn't use a safety harness or anything. I would be shaking like a leaf, parachute or not.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

That video will give me some serious nightmares for a while. I have such a height phobia.

I could feel that ache in my groin and shaking just watching.

They would have to pay me millions to even think about doing that job.

Awesome vid but damn am I messed up now.

My brother-in-law does that stuff for a living. Good money! I guess heights don't bother some people. No way I could do it.

What do you do if the wind picks up or it starts to rain?

I would just panic and freeze.

I had a friend that did tree work. He would put boots on that had horizontal spikes and connect a chain saw with a rope to his belt. He would climb any tree with no fear and cut down limbs. Maybe some people have no fear of hieghts. I would never think of climbing those trees or antenna pole.

I've watched that video about five times now and every time my palms start sweating. I definitely fall in Joe's camp. Just thinking about those sort of heights freaks me out.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

Just working off of a 60 foot vertical lift causes "The Boys" to shrink and try to retreat upward into the ol' body cavity, sort of like sitting in a tub of cold water.

Climbing that tower would be like dipping them in a tub of liquid nitrogen; they ain't never coming back down !

knowing that your tied into something to me isn't sooo bad....its the whole not having something there in case you slip on that little itty bitty peice of metal that gets me.

I also love his "latching" system he has, because that big of a hook on that small of a piece of metal that has no real side to it really isn't doing to do much if you go off the side, down yes to the side.buh bye.

Heights are something that if I know I'm safe I'm ok...like I said if I have something to tie me into something bigger I'm ok....Its the whole falling and not having something to grab me that freaks me out..

And he only uses the hook when he wants to take a break! Not even as a safety when climbing because it "slows him down." Insane!

I'm sure he has a parachute on in case he falls, but STILL, that's a pretty risky "safety" measure.

just think though...if your like 50 ft or more up a parachute wouldn't normally help all that much because it wouldn't have enough time to deploy so you would still end up badly hurt or even dead...

not something I would want to have to think about if I had a wife and children at home....

and it gets windy as crap up high like that...one slip and a nice breeze and it would be sails away...well without a cute more like boat anchors away.

and needless to say when you run out of the ladder and are free climbing...that high...I wouldn't want someone below me because they would probably get pooped on...

Well he doesn't start "climbing" according to the video until 1600 feet or so (there's an elevator up to that point).

And how would you **** on someone? Are you adding insult to injury and doing this hypothetical climb naked? ;)

I love heights will be going sky diving this fall with my girl friend. But to hang off a tower with no safety harness that is a little hard to do with me. I do not think I would mind it though.

They assemblied it on the ground, connected one end to a pivot point and pulled it up- rigth with giude wires.

Assemblied it on the ground and positioned it with a helicopter?

    Just kidding.

Thats a crazy video, I'm only a little bit afraid of heights, but being up that high with very little safety equipment is pretty terrifying.
