I'm closing on a condo and my Realtor (cousin) cut me some commission. I thought I'd get him some speaks and an integrated amp. I already purchased Monitor 40's for him since he enjoyed my 70's. They should sound similar.
I was hoping to keep the amp cost minimal. Is the above option good? A good 2 channel that has enough juice to power bookshelves will do.
There is also this option which is cool because it includes a phono-pre (he has many records) and also an optical input for his PS3:

I almost bought one of those about 6 months ago, and the price was over $300 - probably a good deal on a nice unit. It should power some 40s nicely, IMO.

If he is going to be using it as a AVR then the H/K seems the way to go.
They both have pre-outs should he choose to buy an external amp later on down the line.
Kinna depends on what he would use it more for - 2channel or AVR. -
I'm pretty sure he would be using it for 90% 2ch music. But the H/K comes with some of the extras like digital audio input for cd's and phono pre-amp for his record player. Saves him the price of a dedicated DAC and Phono pre-amp
Do you think the NAD will sound substantially better? As far as I know, they are both on the warm side (good thing).HT and Music Rig
