Universal remote controller question

I am looking at getting one and I have no experience with it.
On my receiver I have to go through 4 o5 menus with the existing remote to switch some hdmi settings that I use frequently. And then the options are on and off

On a universal remote if i want to switch the setting on does it have to go through all those menus before it gets to the settings? or does it use some other form of code to just get directly to the setting.

Also the setting is on or off. does it check the setting before changing it or does it just flip it from one to the other?

the setting I am looking at is the HDMI audio output (through) on/off

I have a Logitech 700 and its great. One button on and off. One button to watch TV, another button to watch a movie, another button to play PS3. It turns units on/off without just toggling. It knows if its on/off already. Programing removes any need for menu jumping to change from one input source to another. I highly recommend a universal remote. I have no experience with any other universal remotes except Logitech, but recommend them. Hope this helps

The logitech harmony line of remotes is pretty nice. I'm not sure if you can make it do shortcuts though. Better call logitech and ask. (800) 231-7717
