Hi folks, been getting great tips and knowledge since joining the forum and will be choosing a receiver shortly. Mainly a 2.1 music listener but enjoy good movies also. Front speakers are rti a3's with a psw505 for the bottom end.

Other than the multiple speaker outputs and hdmi etc, would the 1600 and the 3940 still have the same sound signature? Thinking of going with the 1600 and bi amp to the rti a3s.

Any advice is appreciated!

Bi-amping is not an option on either HK receiver. The 3490 is 120 wpc, compared to 55 for the 1600, so if you are wanting to push some speakers in 2 channel mode, the power difference is quite large.

if you're more into music, then the 3490. if more into movies, then 1600. If not sure, then 1600. But the A3s are very small anyway and doesn't need much power and I doubt you will hear any difference with passive bi-amp, so the 1600 gives enough power.
