Hi Guys, This is something that I just saw. While looking at a Marantz 3200 pre I noticed that it takes speakers. My Onkyo p-301 does not and I have my Infinity sm112s directly into my pwr amp . Is there any advantage going through the pre vs. the amp....LW

Som preamps provide switching facilities for speaker systems. The power amp's output is looped through the preamp in this case. Some of the vintage McIntosh preamps were thus configured as well, but also required an outboard relay-equipped switch box in order to actually use the preamp's speaker switching capability.
