Tornado touchdown

Kind of a crazy night at work.
The first thing that struck me as odd was that the local electric company called and said there was a really nasty storm headed right at us. I have been there for over 20 years and that has never happened!

At about 5:30pm it hit us. You could not even see across the parking lot the rain was coming down so hard. Then, all kinds of warnings came across the radio...Rotating formation and funnel cloud headed our way...

At the moment, it appears that a tornado touched down about 2 miles away from us (at work). It leveled several buildings at the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (OARDC). It also leveled several houses and at least one business, a florist shop. There are trees down everywhere, electric poles snapped off, etc... One of the guys at work had to leave because his dads house had the roof torn off.

Not sure on injuries yet. News says minor injuries, but me and a few other guys saw the LifeFlight helicopter fly overhead....not a good sign.

I do not have any pics at the moment, but if interested you can google Tornado Wooster Ohio

Glad to hear you guys are safe where you are. I hope the life flight made it safe and the person(s) ends up OK. Stay safe.

Didn't a tornado or something touchdown in Brooklyn last night too? That's a tenacious storm.

Wow, and all we got here was some rain yesterday. I hope to never see clouds like that in person. That's when you know some crap is about to happen, and soon!
    Ludicrous gibs!

Mother nature is a typical female! She get pissed off at us, and takes out her frustration by smashing florist shops, and uprooting trees! Honestly, I will never understand women! : )

If I saw a cloud like that I'd $hit my pants.

We had some strong winds here yesterday (80ish miles SW of there).

I've seen those types of cloud formations several times in central IA. Never a good sign. When you see those type of cloud formations, and then it becomes scary quiet (ie no birds chirping, no wind, no rain, no nothing) it's time to, as Monty Python would say, "run away" and hide because the proverbial crap is about to hit the fan.

I was about to make almost exactly the same comment. I have seen those clouds too.

I hope everyone made it through safely with plenty of warning.

Damn!!:eek::eek: Good to see you're alright. It got pretty windy and stormy here, just west of Akron...but nothing like that. We just lost power for about an hour. I have been down that way many times for work. Hope everybody was ok!!

looks like there were no real injuries!
It could have been sooo much worse though. The funnel cloud tracked right down the state route 30 corridor and just missed the fairgrounds which was full of people (fair week).

They are saying that some areas are not going to have power for a week. I loaned my generator to a buddy and we have a couple friends and their families that came over for a shower.

I've experienced that in my travels through tornado alley during my Field Engineer days when my region of responsibility were there. I've even seen a 1/2 mile wide tornado touch down in Columbus Ohio and snap a six foot in circumference oak tree in half. I've always seen the sky turn midnight green with a yellow fringe but never a cloud like that first picture shows.

Another sign of the twisters possible path are the hail stones.

Did anyone ever see the picture of the plastic straw that impaled a metal wheel? That is some real evidence of the power of those things.

Bummer that it happened but I gotta say I found the several lead ups to the twisters and twisters itself to be exhilarating!
