Polk Audio Monitor 70 3-Way Floorstanding Speaker

Hi, considiring on uprading my Polk front speakers with the following:
Polk Audio Monitor 70 3-Way Floorstanding Speaker (Single, Black) my current Polks are listed below:

Polk Front L/R Rt800i
Polk Center CS 400i
Polk Surround Sides L/R FX500i
Polk Surround Back Rears L/R FX50i
SVS 20-39Pci-Sub

The Polks would be driving by the Onkyo 705 and displayed by my PS3 to a front projector, they will be mostly used for BD viewing and some music, will the extra 2 drivers make a difference on the sounds??? that is my question for those of you's that have similar speakers that I am considiring buying.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

I have the Monitor 60's and the RT800's, which are very close. I personally would keep your RT800i's with the others as a timbre matched set, unless you're going to change the others too (at least the center). I prefer the sound of the monitor series slightly over the Rt's for theater/movies and I like the rt's better for music. I'd listen to them first and see which ones you prefer, the rt's are great and the cs400i is one of the best centers ever and will outperform the cs2 anyday in my book. Hope this helped?

Thanks B Run, was just thinking on the front speakers and not the Center nor any other, have seen them for $200 each new which is a good buy I don't really believe that much on timbre as they say (smooth consistent sound all the way around) on the other hand cannot go that much off and put another set of brand not similar to the Polk, I guess.

Wonder if the 2 extra drivers up front would really change the way I hear the sound, to the better I hope.

Add my vote to replacing your center to match your 70s. Timbre match is important for best sound, it doesn,t mean all speakers must be of the same model but rows of speakers has to be (same fronts (including center), same rears)

New Egg has the 60's for 177.00 each and the 70's for 199.00 so I just pulled the trigger.

I think most people would say the opposite, the RT's (reference theater) sound better for home theater, and the monitors sound better with music. That said, the monitors aren't an upgrade, but more of a lateral move. The worst part of that would be getting rid of perhaps the best center that polk built, just to get something that matches the monitors. Keep what you have, and spend the $ on amplification.

Could be that I'm hearing influence from my receivers? Love my yamaha and haven't ever been too happy with my pioneer 1015. I 100% agree with it being a lateral move, I still can't decide which speakers I like better for all around use, and about the cs400i being an amazing center. Honestly I'd keep what you have and get a nice amp.

And the monitors tending to be a little bright and the yamahas tending to be a little bright that may be why I don't like them as much for music. The more I think about it I'm going to try switching my ht setup and living room setup and leave the receivers and see how it sounds.

Heck already pulled the trigger and the Onkyo receiver has been good to me THX and all that Jazz HDMI 1.3 and all that I will not jump to 3d to early in the game, will see if two new Mid/Woofer at 2-6-1/2 will make a difference.

It could be your receivers, or your room, or all the components put together. It's what's called synergy. We can make recommendations based on our systems, or what we've heard, but at the end of the day they're your ears. The coolest part of the audio journey to find the "best" setup (as our budget allows), is the journey itself. It never really ends, and sometimes lateral moves are necessary. Just make your ears happy!

No worries, hook em up and see what you think. They do need more power than your receiver can put out to really shine though. Let us know what you think when you get them.

B Run I will respectfully have to disagree about either the Monitor 70's or the CS2 center being bright. I would say more neutral to a little warm. The Monitor 60's are a little brighter than the 70's.

I do not have any of the RT series, but I have read on this forum that they may be bright for music, especially if under powered.

No worries, I probably should have worded that better also. I think it has a lot to do with my receivers but even with my denon on the monitors they seemed brighter than my rt's. But like I said I'm only running the 60's and cs1 so they may sound a little different too. I'm just trying to give my opinion based on what I hear from my setups, it may be the way I have them setup or maybe I'm just crazy haha. Either way they're both great sets and I enjoy them a lot.

Well received the Monitor70 and or about 9/21 and set it up a few day's later and so far it sounds great, especially when listening to music and when watching blu ray movies it does overwhelm my center speaker but have not used Audysee yet nor my rat shack meter to calibrate the system.

The speakers does make a difference to my ears anyways and planning on hooking up my RT800i as my rear speakers and see how it sounds but it will be at ear length and not one third down from the ceiling as they say to install the side and rear speakers, well I will try it nothing to loose.
