Speaker placement

Hey guys, my polks are slowly starting to open up on the mid range. I pulled them another 2inches away from the wall but that's all the room I can afford. That's still only 5inchs away from the wall from the furthest reaching of the rear Power port. I'm pretty sure the LSi9's enjoy being a good 1-2 feet away from the wall. The mid bass response on my old PSB's is still better. Althought it was a front ported speaker only, I think this is playing a major role.
Can anybody else recommend speaker placement with these speakers? Am I correct in saying they enjoy more room? I ask because I really don't have any room to do an A/B comparision. Possibly the speakers will open up even more. I don't have much time on them at all.
