Planning what to do with my system.

Ok I wish I would've done this when I first started my current HT 3 years ago.

It would've gone some thing like this. I just got a TV and Blu ray player now I want it to be loud. I know nothing please tell me what to do and spend my money....:D

I don't post a lot but very much appreciate all the information I've learned from you all the past couple of years on this forum.

Though I'm happy with my current setup it seems upgrades are just part of this hobby. Just wanted to get some feedback on what my next moves into higher quality audio in my system. This is all hopefully within the next 2 years which by then I'm sure I'll be ready to upgrade again!! Damn you guys!!!:D

One of the main things is that I've definitely gotten back into music since I first started. I used to be into music in high school and had an entry level pioneer rack system but I loved it. I got my first flat screen TV and blu ray player and all I could think about was HT HT HT HT!!! And somehow managed to forget about music. WTF!!! was wrong with me. Like I said I really enjoy my system just want to expand it but that's hard to do with out pre outs so I figure I have to start there.

So here's what's next for me.

New Receiver; I'm thinking pioneer 1120 or an Elite. The price of the 1120 keeps dropping though and I'm thinkin it can be had for a song come black Friday maybe under 500.

Then after that and I mean way after that like next summer I want to get a 2 channel amp and a pre with HT bypass. The parasound 2100 pre and 2250 amp have really caught my eye. Though both of these will be from the used market and not necessarily parasound.

After that it would just be wanting new speakers, new sources and maybe a new display. Then it's on to dedicated 2 channel rig and maybe vinyl someday but that's years down the road. If I end up wanting new speakers I'm probably going to be wanting ones that need more power than my oinker 606 so I've got to upgrade the power first right? More power to my 500s sure as heck wouldn't be a bad thing right?

I'm on a budget and it'll be slow going but I think I'm on the right track, what say you?

Oh and also very much looking forward to listening to my first SACDs when they get here next week.

The elites are very nice units after getting mine I have not upgraded it in two years which is a long time for me.

You can go ahead and upgrade to a elite or you can keep your onkyo and go with a external amp. This will give you a lot more poer and cleaner as well. You will spend about the same or less than a new receiver.

i am not sure what your budget is for speakers or total. But you can always go with pol lsi25's or go in the direction I am going with martin logans. I have been watching a few used sets on ebay and think I am actually going to grab a set this weekend. "For those keeping track yes I did just buy a set of monitor 60's lol"

My rig is both stereo and surround when I want it for movies. I will say you can have both but you can always do a separate rig. I am in no means an expert but I do know take your time and look around. Do not let the money burn a hole in your pocket.
