Moniters compared
Ive been looking at a set of moniter 7s and wanted to hear some input
about them compared to say, Moniter 40s and 30s. Im sorta on the fence
about picking up the 7s for cheap or using 40s as fronts set up on wall shelves
due to my current room config, I currently have 30 series IIs as rears and Tsi 100s for surrounds a CS10 center and some tryouts running up front (various stuff,ie bose 301s and some sonys ) I also run a Klipchs sub. I really want to match up the polks in front, what do you think ? 7s or 40s or something else ?
This is mostly just movies except for some local streaming from a blu-ray
player that plays files from pandora and some stuff streamed from my PC.
I have a main music setup (2 channel vintage stuff downstairs)
Thanks for any info.

Pre-1991 monitors will have better bass response and typically don't sound as bright-sounding as newer Monitors. The Monitor 7's are sometimes called the best of Polk's vintage Monitor lineup. I have a pair of Monitor 5ii's that sound very good and have excellent bass response, especially for bookshelf speakers.polkaudio Monitor 5 Series II
polkaudio SDA-1 (with the SL1000)
TEAC AG-H300 MK III stereo receiver
beyerdynamic DT-880 Premium (600 Ω) headphones
SENNHEISER HD-555 headphones
Little Dot MK IV tube headphone amp
Little Dot DAC_I balanced D/A converter -
OLD vs NEW monitors = Cats vs Dogs. Different creatures totally.
For my $ I'll take the vintage M7s anyday.
For HT, there's a case to be made for the newer monitors.
For music..go with the 7s. -
Having the CS 10 center, I have a fair Idea what the 40s will do and and I like the range with the sub kicked in, however I really like Vintage speakers but have not heard the 7s, so
if they sound good and will work out soundwise with the newer polks, I will save some money going with the 7s and also get to bring home another set of lonely speakers that need to live on (LOL) (my usual justification for buying more used speakers).
Storage space may become an issue soon though!! Thanks. In a constant state of upgrade fever.
