Hi all, glad to be a new member of the forum. I just bought a pair of Polk RT-2000's off craigslist for $80. I don't know if that's a decent deal or not, so if anybody has info on the speakers like original cost, and when they came out, that would be great.

I really wanted some tower speakers so I pretty much pulled the trigger on these as soon as they were posted. A buddy of mine had a nice Polk system that I enjoyed years ago, I figured these would sound good.

I have a few questions...

1. So when I'm hooking up these speakers (which I haven't yet), does the amp built in power only the subs?

2. I have to replace one of the tweeters. I found a guy on eBay who is supposedly a dealer. The replacement part was the SL5509 tweeter. Was wondering if this is correct?

3. My amp puts out about 300 WPC @ 8 ohms. Is this gonna melt my speakers? I only listen at moderate levels.

4.. If anybody has info like the age of this generation Polk's, or original cost, etc., that would be great!

Thanks guys.

After doing some research, I pretty much answered all of my except.

Turns out I got a pretty good deal on these, although I have to replace a tweeter.

Just a couple of questions. Is it possible to bypass the internal amp and run the woofers?

Is the replacement tweeter I listed the right one for this speaker?

Welcome to Club Polk audiocr381ve :)

Not exactly familiar with them but look at the below info; half decent reviews; the weakness is the sub; maybe adding a PSW505 if you find you need more bass. The PSW505 has also decent reviews and they are nearly giving them aways nowadays (vintage).

Ben, nice to see you posting again. Many people were worried about you... How did your latest move go? How is your health nowadays?

    Cheers!

IMHO, messing with the design is blasphemy an would ruined a good pair of vintage Polk. You should first demo them and see how you like them first and as I pointed out in my above post consider an external sub if you find the bass lacking.

As far as the tweeter, I suggest you start a new thread in the troubleshooting section as it is also directed to Polk Cs which could provide you with the answer you need and even potentially the replacement part???

    Good luck and enjoy :)

I agree. Don't worry about too much power. Actually, damage occurs from being under powered more often than anything.
