Replacing midwoofer question. Monitor 7

Greetings from a Polk newbie.
My Brother in law dropped his Monitor 7s for me (free!) that he bought new around 1980.
One of the midwoofs was rubbing so I got the replacement mw6503 from Polk.
It is built a bit different from the originals, so that when I tighten the screws down the rubber surround is under the screw and is being twisted by the screw. This doesn't look good and I'm wondering if the rubber lip needs to be lifted up while the screw is tightened down below it. My fear is that this will pull the surround away from the basket.
So what is the correct way to do this?
Thanks fellows!

Yes, I pulled out the original mw6500 and replaced it with the 6503 I received this week. The pulled mid woof was dated november 1979.Spending way too much on audio for over thirty years.

You need to cut out a little square where the screws go with an exacto knife.
MW6503 is the replacement that Polk sells. If you want a MW6500, you'll have to find a used one. -
Great, I'll try the exacto or my wife's tiny cuticle scissors.
the 6503 dropped right in and sounds great. these are now my rock and roll speakers.
Thanks for the the suggestion. Sometimes I tend to overthink things!Spending way too much on audio for over thirty years. -

Should've replaced it with the correct number. -

6503 is what Polk said what is the direct replacement for the 6500. Was I sold a bill of goods? The 6500 is no longer made, according to what I read on these forums. If you're saying I should have bought some used 6500s from private parties, I understand that. I assume that what Polk is selling is what these speakers need.
Anyway, thanks for the help.Spending way too much on audio for over thirty years. -
The 6500 works fine as a replacement for the 6503. I have done this myself and cannot here a difference. Finding an original 6500 i real hard. They show up now and again but you need to be quick on the draw.
But like I said the 6503 works just fine. -
