I recently moved to a new place and am setting up the home theater. Thought I'd start a thread and post pics as I make progress. Here are some for starters.

Some more pics of the equipment hallway built behind the cabinet and screen which makes wiring a breeze and provides a better home for the power amps and other equipment. FYI, the hidden hallway behind the theater screen was my wife's idea.____________________________________________________________

Very Nice! The equipment hallway is a nice touch and adds a bit of security also.

Sweet! A friend of mine has a similar setup. Can't wait to see more."They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."

Got a lot done with the help of my electrician friend today. Ran all the AV cables to the projector and the 4 runs for in-ceiling rear surrounds. Got the 3000kVA UPS installed and powering all HT-related outlets. Did a lot of cable management since I know that once the movies are playing, I'm less likely to go back and do that stuff.
Here are some technical specs for those interested:
Front mains and center channel speaker wire: Goertz Flatwire
Side and rear surround speaker wire: Belden 5000UE CL3R
SRT subwoofer RCA cables: Audioquest Ruby subwoofer IC's
SVS subwoofer RCA cable: Bluejeans LC-1 with Canare plugs
AV cables (HDMI, S-Video and SVGA): Monoprice.com

How will the front stage speakers be set? Not sure from the pics, possible refraction issue.

To the sides of the cabinet. I played around with a bunch of possible room configurations and finally settled on this being the best location. If I were building a house from scratch and didn't have to have the home theater double as a family room, it certainly would be much more optimally configured to bring out the absolute best in the SRT's and the SDA effect but sadly, I am confined by the pre-existing house.
Fortunately, the Pioneer Elite AVR does a fantastic job with room acoustic correction. I had this same configuration in my last house (except all the way to the left instead of the right) and my only complaint was that I couldn't get the SDA effect fully realized.____________________________________________________________

Since your new house has a special place in wall for the components why not just do without the entertainment center? -
Looks terrific! Very professional! I always wanted a hallway behind my system for wires etc. It will sound fantastic. Set the SRT controller to I think it's "normal" instead of the "wide" selection. Not a perfect setup for the SDA but it will still sound great. Good luck!Carl

good question. the entertainment center was custom built to house and hide the electric screen and provide a quality finished look to the theater. while I will be housing the power amps and a few other 'non-remote controlled' things in the rack enclosure behind the cabinetry, the cabinet itself will still house the AVR, BDP and DVR which must be front facing for the remote to work.
Even if I were to remove the entertainment center, I would only gain an additional 20 inches give or take on each side of the screen. there might be a slight improvement in SDA but still not ideal and the cabinet takes what would otherwise be a electronically functional look and makes it aesthetically pleasing. One other thing I'd say just with my experience thus far with the SRT's is that they are just an amazing speaker set that is capable of sounding good even when conditions aren't ideal.____________________________________________________________

The thing I like most about a setup like this is depending on how much room is behind the screen when it is down the possibility of placing a LED or a plasma on the same wall for normal viewing is there. If I could do this in my H/T room it would have been done by now but beings I have a fixed screen it's not gonna happen. If this room was truly a dedicated H/T room I would recommend going with a huge fixed screen and call it a day. Beings this room is going to serve as a H/T room/family room another flat screen tv on the wall would be awesome, gotta save those hours on those projector bulbs. Cool **** project dpowell, looking forward to seeing the end results.Money Talks, Mine says Goodbye Rob!!!!

I've got about 1" between the screen and the back wall. Could probably fit an LED screen behind it w/o any problems but cost is a factor. I found a place that sells the replacement projector bulbs for ~$200. I have one in my projector now and it's working great. The last bulb I got 3300 hours on so doing the math, I can watch about 15,000 hrs of TV/Movies in HD at 110" screen size for about the same cost as a new 40" LED TV.
By the time I burn 15,000 hours of bulbs, maybe I can get a 110" LED TV for much cheaper!____________________________________________________________

Mind giving a cost estimate for this project (not including construction, just the electronics portion)?"Dr Dunn admitted that his research could also be interpreted as evidence that women are shallower than men. I guess that depends. You want MSRP of the equipment or what I paid? Only bought a couple of the items new. Everything else came from this forum or CL.____________________________________________________________

I guess I was asking for the MSRP. I'm just trying to get a grip on what to expect to spend (generally) when I build my own someday."Dr Dunn admitted that his research could also be interpreted as evidence that women are shallower than men. Time to post some pictures of the progress. I'm nearly done with the install. Just have a couple more in-wall speakers to install and then do some fine-tuning.____________________________________________________________
