Just curious. I think of her as the heir to Townes Van Zandt, though she'll probably make more money than he did.

I don't remember the last album of hers I got. Her first two were so good. Then the style changed, slowed down, and if I had to guess from her lyrics, music isn't the only thing she inherited from Townes. Doesn't seem like a secret. I have about 5 Gillian Welch CD's and they chronicle the descent pretty well.

David Rawlings gets co-songwriting credits on later albums. He's very good. His guitar is admired by guitar players. I think they'll fall out eventually, as everyone seems to fall out. I half expect someone to tell me she's on her own.

To me, Welch is where country music should be going, or if it left, should have stayed. In one music store I found her under the odd title of, "Americana".

There is great music being made today, but it's rarely on traditional outlets. Sirius radio and the other 'private' vendors are where great music is hiding.
Singers like Welch and Robert Earl Keen, Kate Wolf; people you'll see on Austin City Limits but not hear in San Bernardino Ca.

It's been over ten years since she came out, she's probably an institution by now. Her songs have been featured in films, covered by others.

So has anyone heard her or heard what she is doing these days?

I only have a passing interest in Gillian Welch. I tend to lean more toward Nickel Creek and Punch Brothers in that genre. And though I dig her voice, I think Glen Phillips' version of Revelator is SO much more interesting.

It would have to be- I was just listening to that album today and it was boring, very boring. Nothing revelatory about revelator. I'll look for Phillips.

Blue Fox, no, unless she's a recluse in the Montana wilderness too who tends to talk to much. I do wander. No question.

Time (The Revelator) in fact is the only album of hers I've got. I do like it, but I have to be in the right mood. When I'm in that mood, it sounds fantastic to these ears....but no, its not filled with exciting hooks or anything. I've had it for nearly a decade and probably only played it 20 times, but wouldn't dream of selling it (if that makes sense).

Revival is her first album. It is her best, though does not have the style she developed afterwards which was noticed in Revelator. Hell amongst the yearlings is the second and very very good.

If you like the style of revelator, you will like Soul Journey better-

    My opinion.
