Hey everyone I have TSI500s and a Micropro 2000 hooked up to a Pioneer Elite VSX23. Its in a small room yet I have to turn the volume way up to get it to a good volume (usually around -25db). Any lower and its hard to hear, any higher and its distorted and not a crsip sound.

What do you think the problem might be? Is this receiver not powerful enough to get good sound, do I need to invest in an amp?

That receiver should be able to power those speakers just fine. Recheck your connections, and try setting up your speakers again in the receiver. BTW -25 on my Elite isn't turning it "way up" (it's actually on the quiet side of normal for most material), yours might be different, though I doubt it.
