What a game!

The only team with a better record in the National League right now are The Reds. They've lost two in a row and face The Rockies again and losing, again 4 to 2 at the top of the 8th, now. They face Colorado two more times this week and the Phillies face Florida again tomorrow. If the Phillies win tomorrow and the Reds get swept by the Rockies then all Philly has to do to take top spot in the National League is beat the Mets on Friday!

This is turning in to quite an exciting September!

    Ugh.....

It's only a half a game and since L.A. and St. Louis have decided to take the end of the season off, even the Braves situation is still a good one.

Phillies are the only team in the NL with 80 wins. The Braves are in a slump but it's only been for a couple weeks. Even when the Braves were winning, the Phils were catching up. They were 8.5 games behind at one point and caught up when the Braves were banging out wins 4 out of 5 games a week. Phils were getting wins 5 out of 5 games a week at some points. The Phils also had 5 players from the starting lineup out on the DL for most of August. They still caught up to the Giants and the Braves.

The Braves are good, but don't give them all the credit. There are a bunch of good teams in the NL this year. September and October are going to be interesting months this season.

Lowe pretty much pitched his best game this season. His placement was spot-on... so to speak. Good to see my Bravos shake off this supposed "slump" with such a strong outing. Of course, the Phils had to up and ruin my excitement with a solid win of their own.

I checked the standings last night after the game and the Phils currently have the best record in the NL with a .574 win percentage. Unless the Braves choke, I think it's gonna seesaw the rest of September.

I hope Lou is prepared to have people camped out in front of the TV watching playoff games at Polkfest.

As Ricardo implied.... keep an eye on the Redbirds. The Pads may have been a fluke (passionate play aside), but Cincy appears to be the real deal.

Oh, I know, The Reds are a contender. But they had a big slump in the beginning of the season that I think is going to come back to haunt them. They are struggling pretty good with Colorado though. The Reds are in the playoffs. They are 6 games ahead of the next closest team in the Central and that's St. Louis. They just seem to have given up, The Cards that is. They've lost more games than they've won since the start of August and it killed their chances. For The Cards to get in to the playoffs, they'll have to go through Colorado, San Fran and Atlanta (for now) to get a Wild Card berth.

So rest easy Ricardo, unless something catastrophic happens or the Cards wake up and win every game from now until the end of the season, you'll get to watch at least one playoff series for the Reds.

Right now I'm just praying that the Yankees don't go to the show again. I'm sick of looking at them. And the only way I'll forgive the Phils not getting to the show this year is to see them go next year and meet the Boston Red Sox in the World Series. That would be a spectacular series!

Smart money is on the Phillies in the NL. Though I love CarGo and the Rockies but even with ToLo getting hot I don't think they have enough pitching to do much if they make the playoffs.

The AL I have no clue really. Anybody but the Yankee's please!!

I don't think Rockies are going to make it. They fell far behind and the rally has come pretty late. They have to get past The Giants and The Braves(or maybe Phillies) to get in to the Wild Card slot and that is not an easy task. Especially since they have been spanked hard by all of those teams.

I think the Twins have a solid chance of getting to the show in the AL. I thing Tampa Bay can get past the Yankees too. They have been duking it out all season and they are only 2.5 games back from the Yankees. But the problem with the AL is that those are the dominant teams. There's not much else in the AL this year.

In the NL though, Atlanta, Philly, Cinncy, St. Louis (if they get out of the funk), San Diego, San Fran and even Florida all have teams that are or could be viable contenders in the playoffs. The W-L numbers are so close it's disgusting and it's something like 1.5 games that separates the top 4 or 5 teams and the entire spread over the top 3 teams and all the Wild Card contenders is no more than 6 games or so. The pennant race in the NL is very tight and that's likely why the numbers are not as disparate as the AL. Which ever team in the AL gets to the World Series, they are going to have a hell of a fight on their hands.

The Rockies' playoff chances may have been "cooked" last night when Cook took that liner off his foot. Early reports are that it's broken. I wouldn't be too quick to count them out that offensive is good and they play most of their remaining schedule at home.

I like the Braves to win the wild card and if not the Rockies I like San Diego to win the west.

Come the NL Playoffs it's anybodies game but, I think with their pitching and the fact that they are getting very healthy, the Phillies are going to be tough.

I watch a lot of the Twins they are good and fun to watch. It'll be interesting to see them take on the powers in the East. I don't have a lot of faith in Texas, I think Cliff Lee's back is bothering him more than they are letting on. With out him at his best they are toast.

Cliff Lee is all The Rangers have. Their schedule has been pretty lax for most of the season. They don't have a real rival in their division and they can't compete outside of their division with the Yanks, Twins, Rays or, honestly, even the Cubs. Not to take anything away from them but but I don't really think they belong in the playoffs. I'll be surprised if they get past the first round.

But the Rockies are over 6 games back from the lead in their division and they still have a game against the Reds tonight as well two 3-game series against LA, a 3 game series against Sandy Eggo, a 3 game series against San Fran and a 4 game series against St. Louis to finish out the season. They may be good but that is one rough schedule against 3 division rivals and two tough NL teams. Even if The Cardinals are struggling they are more than capable of laying the smack down on any team in the NL at any point. The Rockies are a longshot but it wouldn't be the first time they came from such a large deficit to make the playoffs. But, then again, Sandy Eggo has a rough schedule as well with pretty much the top teams in the league facing them. San Fran has a not as tough schedule but it is full of teams that they have struggled with in the past. Maybe it does go the Rockies way, who knows?

Rockies are only 4.5 back 5 in the lost column. Your right though it's anybodies race. I'll be routing for the Rockies though. Comebacks are always more fun to watch.

I think the Brave and the Phils have 6 games to play against each other the last couple weeks of the season. Those games will likely decide the division.
