Polk cross over freq.

My question is in regards to the crossover frequency settings AFTER I ran audyessy.

After audyssey, my sub was set to 80hz. ( Do I change this to 120hz?)

My Front/Rear/Center was set to "large" but I manually set these to "small", but now the crossover freq. is set to 40hz. (Ive switched from 40hz to 60hz to 80hz and it seems 40hz sounds best (not so "boomy") My concern is having these set at 40hz, will I risk blowing anything? Why does everyone say to set f/r/c to 60hz-80hz?

Welcome to CP. IMHO 40Hz is asking too much of the F/C/R you are running. You have a very good sub, so 80 or even a little higher for that is good. 80Hz is the THX standard, which is why that gets used so often. Producing low freq. takes a lot of power, so using a sub (sub amp) to do this lessens the load you are asking the AVR to supply, which frees up the power from the AVR to better drive your other speakers.
Double check your set up in the AVR and re run Audyessy making sure there is not any background noise (frig., AC, kids playing etc.) that can/will be picked up and through it off. Make sure you are not using the filter in the sub and the AVR. Play around with the location of the sub if you can place it in other locations. Sub set up can be a challenge.

I would think when everything is set up correctly a "small" setting for your F/C/R and something in the 80Hz range for the crossover should sound better than the 40Hz. But that is from my seat here in front of my PC. If after some experimenting the 40 Hz still sounds better to you, then that is what you should use.

For the setup in my sig, I ran audissey and set all 5 speakers to 80hz and the sub also to 80 and it sounds truely AMAZING!

I did have to play around with the location of the sub A LOT to find a spot where it wasnt too boomy or too quiet, I also had to play with the phase setting, I set mine to 140. Now you can't even tell where the sub is, everyone who listens tells me that my speakers have amazing base and clearity... then I turn off the sub and say: it's NOT the speakers! lol! Anyway, the settings & sub location is what did it.

I have to say, now that I have it all dialed in, I just couldn't be happier with this setup. This combo sounds incredible!
