Hello all,
Thanks for taking the time to read my inquiry. I am currently on the fence about upgrading to a pre-amp or receiver that supports Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, Dolby Digital Plus and DTS-HD high-resolution audio.
I currently have the Yamaha RX-V2500 receiver that only supports Dolby Pro Logic IIx, Dolby Digital 5.1 audio, Dolby Digital 7.1 audio and DTS 96/24.
What was your experience like the first time you heard the new audio formats in your home? Did you notice any difference in sound quality with Blue-ray movies? Was it worth the expense of upgrading?
My set-up consist of the above mentioned receiver used as a pre-amp, a Rotel RMB-1075 amplifier, Lsi-25's, Lsi-C, and Lsi-Fx's. I use a PS3 as a Blue-ray player. Thanks again for taking the time to read this, and I hope you respond.

IMO, the cost to improvement ratio of upgrading the AVR may not be worth it. That looks like a pretty nice AVR.
Just a thought, but it would be cheaper to get a Blu-ray player with analog audio outputs and you could get the new codecs with your current AVR via the multi-channel inputs. You could still use the PS3 for everything else but movies.Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden -
I noticed a huge difference and that was when I was using monitor line speakers. I went from an onkyo 505 to a yamaha 565 just for the new formats and loved it. If you are content using your receiver as a pre then you most likely wont need anything uber expensive to just get the preouts for your amp and the new formats. Unless of course you planned to make the huge jump to a processor like some of the integras.

I was told that using a Blue-ray player with analog outputs would not sound as good as using a receiver with the built in decoder circuitry. It would be alot less exensive to go that way tho. Thank you guys for your responses.
