I just got a used AVR300 and connected all my speakers and subwoofer to this receiver. I have Focal Chorus 816V and its center and also the surround connected to the receiver. My speaker were setup as large and I had the subwoofer flagged as present. When I play movie using toslink connection, I do not hear any bass coming out from the sub. Can someone advise if my speakers are supposed to be set as small rather than large in order for the sub to play?

If speakers are set as small, when playing music using the 'Stereo' mode, will the sub be turned on as well? Or can will the front speakers play as full range speakers? Comments or inputs are welcome!!

The first thing to do is to do a factory reset, push the 'fm mute/mono' button and the 'preset/tune' buttons at the same time. The display will say 'reset reqd?' and then you push the 'ok' button. After that, it should work ok. You will have to set everything up again speaker sizes and distances and what not but this would be a good way to start out as you have received it used. Try that for starters.

Can you confirm that the sub works?

Yeah, I did reset it already. Should I set my speakers F,L,C, SL & SR as small?

It shouldn't matter. The LFE in 5.1 movies should be routed to the sub regardless of the speaker size. Have you went into the level adjustment setting? Each channel should make a burst of pink noise as it goes through each channel connected. Try this and see if any noise comes from the sub. If not try hooking the sub out from a pre out for the left or right channel and then try again. If you get pink noise this way and not through the "sub" out on the AVR then something is wrong with the AVR. It could still be an incorrect setting but it looks like you have everything set up correctly. Just for interest sake... when you are in the level adjustment section make sure the sub level is turned up to at least 0 and not in the negatives.

I just have a quick question about the Arcam AVR300. Does it run hot at all?

My Rotel RSX-1067 runs so hot I can't put my hand on the top for more than a second or two before it gets REALLY uncomfortable.

Mine never got hot... ever. Warm yeah.. but not hot. This could be due to the fact that it has a built in fan. I can honestly say that i never heard the fan run and most people say that the fan runs dead quiet. I ran it in a rack with only about 2 inches clearance above it.

Well I guess that's one more reason I want to try the Arcam. I've loved every Arcam piece I've ever tried. I'm sure the 300 will be good too.
