Got my USPS delivery notice for my SACD copy of Paranoid today!
Bad news: will be out late Thursday night at practice, then out of town for a seminar on Friday and won't be back late Saturday. First chance for listening will be on Sunday, but I'll post first spin impressions then.
Patience is a virtue...right???

Am psyched about the Paranoid SACD as well - probably another week until it arrives. Funny, and perhaps juvenile, when listening to Sirius/XM at work this week War Pigs came on and I immediatly changed the station - wanted to "save" it for the new SACD album. Know what I mean?
(It's juvenile because I am 48, not 18. Love that album!)Parasound P5 Pre

Yep.
I've read here on the forum that the SHM-SACD of "Who's Next" has "crankability" (love that term ). Sure hope "Paranoid" does too.Parasound P5 Pre

I had some time to do some listening to the new SACD mix of Paranoid.
I compared the SACD (2chnl) to my redbook CD.
I used my Oppo 83 for both discs.
My personal observations are that the CD is a 'hotter' mix compared to the SACD which seems almost vinyl like in the sonic qualities - more laid back for the treble mix and less fatiguing - but - dare I say - to the sacrifice of some subtle detailing.
For example, in War Pigs, the tamborine can be heard slightly better in the CD and tends to get 'lost' in the SACD.
The sonic qualities of the SACD are noticable - Iommi's guitar in War Pigs sounds like he walked straight from the taping of the first album into this one - if you know that sound from the first album - its right there in War Pigs.
The SACD tends to have a more focused sound stage than the CD and you can hear the analog tape hiss more.
In Planet Caravan - it sounds like Bill Ward in playing the congas right in front of you - so clear - you can hear each finger and palm striking the congas - way better than the CD.
Fairies Wear Boots is one of my favorite tracks - and the SACD sounds better as if a window pane were cleaned to perfect clarity. Geezer's bass mix is incredibly clear - holy &*#@ - what an under rated bass player - this track really reveals how he plays!
The SACD is way crankable - whereas the CD can make you cringe in parts due to it brightness. It has that laid back feel too it - but in spots can make certain details get lost in the mix.
I have the LP, the CD, and now the SACD. All sound a tad different. I'll give it a thumbs up.

I owned the 8 track, the cassette, and the LP and I agree, the CD was really bright. Thanks for the review.
