Dropping Direct TV...but still watch TV

Another thread discussed those that have actually dropped cable(or sat tv) and lived to tell about it.....and, it got me thinking. Why do I spend over $70/month to basically watch a handful of tv shows and sports? There must be a better way. Sometimes it's actually fun to surf the menu and look at other shows but I could live without that.
Assuming we can get over the air signals and knowing that our internet connection is DSL, what are the best current options? The wife could not live without the local news/weather along with Sci Fi channel and my life would have a small void if I could not watch the Yankees(please, no flaming!) and shows like Mad Men, Breaking Bad & Men of a Certain Age.
So, if you wanted to watch local networks...you favorite non local baseball team and a few non network TV shows how would you do it(w/o cable or sat)?

Well, for baseball there's MLB.tv for ~$25/yr. And from what I can tell, there are online options for almost everything else except local stuff.
I dunno. We plan on giving this a shot starting next spring when our god-foraken Dish Network subcription finally runs out."I did not slap you. I high-fived your face." -
Local networks look wonderful in OTA HD. No complaints there. I think some channels actually look better in OTA HD than what I used to get from Comcast.
As jeph said, you can find most other programming online, but there may be some instances where you will miss things you want to see (I'll miss all of the NFL games on ESPN this year unless I go to the bar.)
Overall, I can't justify going back to cable at 60-80 a month for a few football games and 1 or 2 movies I might want to see there. I'll enjoy what I have available OTA. And you might be surprised at how quickly you adapt to having just 4-5 channels. I am perfectly content with having football and PBS to be honest2007 Club Polk Football Pool Champ
