In the auction league I drafted the other night, I ended up with the below team. A dude is trying to trade me Beanie Wells and Tony Romo for Chris Johnson and Chad Henne.

What are your thoughts? I hate to give up CJ, but wonder if it wouldn’t be the best move considering my team is still fairly well stacked at RB…(and we play 1 WR, 1 TE, 1 RB and 3 slash spots.)

QB: Henne/Cassel
RB: CJ, Brandon Jacobs, DeAngelo Williams, Jamaal Charles, Jonathan Stewart, Fred Jackson
WR: Fitz, Lee Evans, Nate Burleson
TE: Celek

Random, but I figured someone here might have an angle on this that I'm not considering...

I worry about Wells in that Arizone offense.. especially with Hightower stealing goal line carries.. CJ is in one of the few sole-RB team situations in the league and is one of only 4-5 RBs to get a guaranteed 25-30 carries a game.. thats HUGE!

Romo and his offense will probably beat Henne's, but I really hate to give up the likely best RB available (which you likely bid a significant amount for) for a slight upgrade at QB..

I don't think Romo will be significantly better than Henne and would not make up for the decrease you'd endure giving up CJ..

Since CJ and DeAngelo are the only RB1s you really have.. the other backs are all in RB by committee situations with week-to-week value uncertain.. I just don't think you'll recoup enough increase in value from swapping Henne for Romo..

I'm betting you could flip one/two of your RBs for a decent middle ground between Romo and Henne via trade and keep CJ..

One Fantasy players opinion, but hopefully it's helpful =)

Not in a million years. Without CJ, you're not as stacked at RB as you seem to believe. And even if your stable is somewhat above average, you have to think ahead toward future trades.

Also... Carolina will have a bye week. By trading CJ, you'll be without your top three RB's that week.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

Very good points...thanks for the feedback!

I actually like Charles as a legit #1 as well Jason. I don't think Thomas Jones has THAT much left in the tank; and I don't think KC's offense is going to be pass happy this year, Weis or no Weis.

That being said, you both make a very good point. I think I'll hang on to CJ...unless someone poses a scenario that just blows me away.

I am however considering ditching one of the Carolina backs. I can't decide between Williams or Stewart. Leaning towards keeping Williams, but Stewart is nasty (IF he can stay healthy....huge if...)

Those Carolina backs are tricky.. If you have one, you should probably have both, really. Both have some injury problems (like nearly all RBs), but both have produced huge.. and a few games they even produced huge at the same time/same game. There are probably weeks you could justify starting them both.. and one is bound to miss some time and open up the workload for the other..

    Tricky situation there..

Charles is good, I agree. I just happen to like ole' Jones more than you probably =) He just produces.. he always seems to net 1200+ yards and plenty of TDs if he gets the chances.. All these RBBC situations are tricky to traverse fantasy-wise

Yea, the Carolina backs were an ongoing issue for me in the draft. To handcuff or not to handcuff...Stewart popped up late enough that I couldn't resist grabbing him too.

I was actually going to see what you had to say about starting both. I guess if they're playing an exceptionally porous D, I might as well start both.

I think Jones is finally on the downside of his career. He'll definitely vulture some goal line carries from Charles, but I think Charles is too explosive/nasty to not get at least 10 TD's this year. Bowe still seems shaky, and Chambers has never lived up to his potential (coming from a Fins fan here...), so I don't have much faith in their passing game (which has me looking for an adequate replacement for Cassel already....)

Unless you knew the opposing defenses run defense was terrible, I woudn't start both the Carolina backs until/unless they've proven they'll both produce together.. but one of them is bound to get hurt and they are both good backs.. i like stewart better than williams technically though.

You are right on Charles though, he's got more talent than Jones, hopefully they give Charles the opportunity to prove it..

With Henne throwing to Brandon Marshall, I think you already might have the better QB option not just the better RB. Miami is going to be more of a passing offense this year and the Dallas line looks very suspect in pass protection. You'll have better luck with the players you have.

    +1

I really didn't get into why I liked Henne, but I definitely agree.. Henne will be improved this season with Marshall and another year in the pros.. He played pretty darn well the last 4-5 games of last season (against decent competition too)

Not a chance I would do that trade. You are stacked at rb and have some very good wr's. Believe it or not, you could pick up a free agent qb from week to week in some cases depending on matchups if Henne doesn't pan out. I think he will have a decent, unspectacular year that will get you some points. But the bulk of your points will obviously come from a stacked rb and wr crew.

Interesting. In the end I guess CJ is too much of a difference maker to get rid of. Solid feedback from all parties.

Interesting feedback on Henne too! I'm actually a Fins fan, and think he's definitely our QB of the future, I just don't expect a breakout/step to the next level until next year (if there is a next year...)

Good point Shawn. A friend of mine at work said "you're an idiot; who else can start four 1k+ yards RB's every week?" I'm going to roll with my crew. No tuesday afternoon coaching this year :)
