I had cable for six months back in the nineties. I canceled during a period of unemployment and never went back. Between OTA, Netflix, Hulu, The Daily Show, internet news, info and radio, plus local radio, four magazine subscriptions, a ton of LPs, and library full of books I am totally awash in media. Add cable and I would drown.

Yep. Haven't watched tv in years. With all the crap shows that are on, it's hard to see why anyone would want to.

I know it's tough to understand that such a thing is possible, sir, but you are WRONG. I did not chastise people for getting off-topic, my comment was instead aimed at a specific notion - namely the very popular "I don't watch TV" comment that proliferates our society, especially among people who like to announce publicly that TV and all the "crap that is on it" is below them.

Maybe if I put my original comment in bold you would have been able to undersatnd it rather than waging this little passive-aggressive tantrum?
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

I have not dropped Direct TV(can't get cable)...yet. But I have often thought about it and the same reasoning too...could use that $$ for audio upgrades I want to make...even if I split the savings with the Mrs. I can still get something every few months that I want!
Wife is a local news/weather addict so I would need to put up a tall antenna to get OTA and with streaming options to get other shows that we do watch on a regular basis(probably on 5 or so) this is very tempting...but I will miss the YES channnel for sure.

Yes, we did get rid of it for a few months due to financial reasons awhile back. When things got better, got it back. Just make sure its longer than 3-4 months, cause unfortunately we found out the hard way that the re-hook-up charge (just to flip a switch) costs as much as what you saved over a couple months.

I technically "have" cable (basic), but I haven't turned it on for months and haven't missed a thing. I can get all the shows I want to see online, and my kids can watch movies instead of cartoons (they're too young to get bored of the same movie over and over again yet).

Haven't had cable in 10+ years in my house. Would be nice to have sometimes, but on the whole I'm better off without it, in terms of time spent and $$ spent.

I often justify my audio purchases by adding up what I haven't spent on TV. :)

I get numerous HD channels with my OTA antenna , and still have a working C/KU band Sat dish system that has numerous free channels to watch.

But being able to watch recorded shows in HD , when I feel like watching them and having the option to FF through commercials is what keeps the DirecTV ball and chain up and running.

I notice alot of you drop/or want to drop cable/sat tv,or don't watch much tv at all. Yet I find it somewhat unusual given that premiss, that you also have HT systems. Whats the point if your going to watch movies on a computer screen,or a football game, etc.?

Here in Chicago, when the snow flies is probably the time I enjoy TV the most. Football is a must, and not on a puny screen, for me anyway.

I get all local channels in incredibly crisp HD format over the air. The only games I'll miss are the ESPN games, and there's a good excuse to get out for a drink or 2 on Sunday evening :)

And honestly, I enjoy watching my blu-rays more than anything else on my HT system.
