Looks like Hurricane Earl is going to mess up the weekend

It's predicted to be with 200 miles of the coast off the Carolinas by Thursday morning. It's a category 3 but expected to strengthen to a 4 by Thursday. If it makes landfall there, it's going to cruise right up the coast.

Thing is, there is a huge pressure trough over the east coast and it'll suck that hurricane up like a alley gutter attracts bowling balls. There is a stationary/stalled front over Canada and the Great Lakes that is funneling this blistering hot weather to the east coast. If that breaks, then a high pressure front could move in and shove the hurricane out to sea.

We'll see but right now, looks like land-fall late Thursday, early Friday. It's only moving at about 15 mph so it's a slow mover.

All you southern folks, get prepared. We could be in for some trouble.

Well, right now, they are saying it's going to rain up and down the coast. The trough is on the move and could shove the hurricane on a more northward path and that would sent it just east of NJ. To do that, it has to miss landfall. We'll see. It's still 3-5 days out and could end up following Danielle.

On a side note, they just upgraded the depression due east of the Virgin Islands to Tropical Storm Fiona. That's way too far out and usually a high strength storm like Earl runs through and leaves a wake of varying pressure behind it. That affects the path of the next storm.

Well, if the thing veers any more to the west, it looks like I won't be needing a tree removal service to take down the three 70ft pines towering over my house.

Last big storm that blew through my area took trees out left and right--I was w/o power for almost 2 days--Neighbors lost BIG trees. Took me about 2 hours to get home which normally takes me 15-20 mins. I was most certainly expecting a few trees down on my property.
To my utter surprise I didn't lose any trees--The most damage was a couple leaves laying on my otherwise clear lawn. WTH!:eek: Not even the dead 100 footer or even any branches from it! I was so shocked I walked around my acre of woods out back and guess what? Not one tree lost.

You'll probably still need that tree service, so don't cancel the appt. ;)

    Not two whole days! ;)

Last time I lost power was the middle of winter and 13 days. Got down to 38 degrees in my house.... After that, comparatively, I would LOVE to lose power in the summer.

Earl slowed down. Now they aren't expecting it to hit land until early Friday morning. It's going to "brush" by though they are saying. Gonna suck on the coastal areas with a pretty hefty storm surge and coastal flooding. Hopefully all was get is a bunch of wind and rain.

Winds are just below 135 MPH and they are predicting that it will fluctuate in strength over the next 24 hours. Still a Cat 4 but barely.

I prefer winter.....but I'm in south Florida. When Hurricane Charlie blew through back in '04, it was the hottest month of the year (August), and we lost power for a week. Much like yours, it was dangerous, in fact the heat was dangerous enough that we decided to get outta dodge because our little one was only a year old at the time. Temperatures inside would not get any cooler than 84 - and that was at night, with humidity over 90%. Sometimes paradise has a price I guess.

I hope for you guys it does not hit land or if it does it is reduced to a storm. As for all the hot air up here, heck if you need it to help push it away, have it! it is so hot and humid here.

Don't worry, Earl is pushing a huge pile of it this way already. Humidity is sky high and current temps are in the mid-90's and climbing.

Tomorrow, looks like a triple digit day.

Just remember to blame it on global warming if Earl hurts anything. That seems to make everyone feel better.

No hurricanes in Montana, but we've tornados, and once our little town was snowed in for a solid week. No traffic, goods, and no US postal service.

Looks like another inland hurricane is being blew in IN. Any polkie living in IN should be heading for covers, stock on foods and water, keep the children and pets safe in the bunker, and get spare batteries for the emergency flash lights, etc.

Who knows what's going to happen when 450W Tube mono blocs are assembled and power up. Possibilities are that it'll end up being a state of the art tube bomb and eradicate everything in 100 miles radius.

Hurricane Earl is closing in. Real Close and at 145MPH. It is Massive, Aggressive and on the Fury! Hopefully, it won't reach coastal and inland and stay offshore only.

I pray all of those you in it's path to be safe and sound riding out the Hurricane.

    God Bless to You All!

Man, you're worse than the local news media!
    From NOAA...

    Hurricane Earl
    Thu, 02 Sep 2010 11:00:29 EDT
At 1100 AM EDT the center of Hurricane Earl was located about 300 miles south of Cape Hatteras North Carolina or about 765 miles south-southwest of Nantucket Massachusetts. Movement was toward the north near 18 MPH. A turn toward the north-northeast with an increase in forward speed is expected on Friday. On the forecast track the center of Earl will pass near the North Carolina Outer Banks tonight and approach southeastern New England Friday night. Maximum sustained winds are near 140 MPH with higher gusts. Earl is a Category Four Hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. No significant change in strength is expected today but gradual weakening should begin on Friday.

It's already weakening just like they said. Yesterday, winds were approaching 125 MPH at one point and that's barely a Cat 3. That was weakened after winds approaching 135 MPH yesterday morning were reported. This morning, winds approaching 145 MPH and now they have slowed to 140 MPH although speed has picked up and direction has changed to a northerly path. It'll probably get within 100 miles of NC and then get kicked out to sea by the high pressure front stalled over Canada. All day yesterday it was cruising at about 12-15 MPH. Speed picked up to 18 MPH today.

BTW, if anyone is interested, find your local weather band on a weather band radio and listen to the electronic overlord voice broadcasting that report and the coastal warnings. Sounds pretty cool! If not ominous that is.

The Jersey Shore is going to likely get rain and wind but it should be clear by Saturday. However, i was talking to my friend who lives in Mystic Islands and he said there's already a wicked storm surge with a high tide already over a foot above normal. Coastal flood will likely be your biggest issue but by the time your wedding goes off, it should be well receded.
