Tsi500 w/ Denon AVR791
Anyone have this compination? Opinion? Advise before I buy please
The AVR791 is 90w / channel. Thought about the 891 which is 105w / channel but its also a few hundred $$ more.

WELCOME TO CLUB POLK!!
Hi tsonka....the Denon AVR 791 will certainly be able to power your speakers and you won't see much of an improvement in volume by stepping up to the next model.
If you want to plan for the future...though....you should think about an AVR that has pre-outs for all its amplified channels that would allow you to add an external power amp. THe TSI-500s would benefit from more power in 2 channel stereo sound.
Unfortunately that would take you up to a $1100+ Denon....so you might want to think about an AVR that has pre-outs in a lower price range...something like a Pioneer 1120 or an Onkyo 707/8.
But if you just want to get up and running. The 791 will do ya!

I am actually going to run this set up 2.0 .. possibly 2.1 if more bass is needed.
The size of the room the Sony XBR9 TV and this will be in is not really laid out for a surround set up. Music is my main concern, I will use it with TV but music is the main point.
I have the TV, am sold on the speakers, just need a stereo receiver to drive them.
I am limited to about $1500usd on this set up (speakers will cost $800)and when shopping for a stereo receiver the only hard requirement is optical audio input from my TV. When I have found 2.1 receiver with 100ish watts and optical input I was up in price enough that I could look at 5.1 / 7.1 A/V receivers with more processing options.
I would love to hear suggestions for a quality 2.1 receivers. -
Recently upgraded from a Denon 2802 to the Onkyo TX-NR708 mentioned above. Very happy with it thus far. So many choices. It can be very confusing.

Yea, I feel I have good decisions in my componets, I was just concerned if 90w/channel would be adequate. Volume is important but Ill take SQ over volume any day. -
The Denon 2802 that I mentioned was also rated for 90w per channel. Drove the Monitor 70's in my theater setup just fine for an AVR. Honestly, I've heard many different AVR's in the sub thousand dollar department, and I really can't tell much of a difference in sound ;>}. It's only when I hook up some of the same speakers to my separate system that I can say, "oh, that IS different." More dynamic burst, tighter bass, etc.
I'm sure that Denon you're after will make good music with those TSi 500's. Question is does it have the feature set you'll want as you move into the next era of home theater technology.

If you're only interested in running a 2.1 system...I'd invest in a Harman Kardon 3490. It has 2 sub out jacks, Virtual Surround, and 120 watts x 2 into 8 ohms. It will also allow you to add a power amp to its TWO channels. Of course this would mean that you're not going to think about 5.1 or 7.1 in the future. The HK also has coax and optical ins for a DVD or B-ray player and DACs for PCM output conversion.
Otherwise, think about the Onkyo or Pioneer==both good choices.

I have a Denon AVR-591 (one step down from the 791) and I have no complaints.
If I were you, I'd look into the Denon 1911 instead of the 791. It's very close to the same price, but it has multizone which would give you the ability to bi-amp the speakers.
