Stumped with PSW505

Greetings all!
I'm new to the Polk fold. I picked up my first pair of Polk speakers, Monitor 70, a month ago which I'm extremely happy with. Then my 7 year old subwoofer finally gave up the ghost around the same time. So after unsuccessfully trying to get the sub repaired I opted for a PSW505 which was on clearance sale and I bought it yesterday.
I also have some small surrounds of another manufacturer to finish of the 5.1 system. Everything is hooked into a Denon AVR-2310CI receiver. I just spent the morning setting Audyssey up and playing around with the subwoofer settings.
Now the issue I'm having...
I am not sure if the PSW505 auto on/off is working. I've got the sub hooked up with a single cable from the AVR sub out to the LFE jack on the sub. When I ran Audyssey I had the sub set to the 'On' position as per the instructions and everything seemed to work okay. However when running a DVD surround LFE audio test with the sub set to 'Auto' no sound can be heard and the power light on the back of the sub stays red. If I flip the Auto On/Off swith back to 'On' the red light turns to green and low bass can be heard. I have all my speakers set to 'small'. I've tried different combiations of settings but still can't get the auto sensing signal to work from the sub.
I'm sure I'm missing something in settings somewhere. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. If I'm missing info that needs to be provided for assessment please let me know. I'm scouring the www to find solutions but I figure Polk's own forums would be the ideal place to get an answer.
Any ideas?

Welcome to CP!
I am not sure as to the answer to your question, although it does seem like the auto on may not be functioning properly. What I can tell you is that polk's CS is first rate. If you call or email you will get a quick and courteous response from a real person who knows what they are talking about, and if they decide that you sub really isn't functioning properly then they will repair or replace quickly.

Thanks for the quick replies!
rooftop59: You are correct. I plan on sending them an email or make a phone call once I've exhausted all my troubleshooting activities.
tonyb: Yes, sub is enabled in receiver and x-over set to LFE, 120Hz (also tried 80Hz).
While I have been tinkering with the sub I have been browsing these forums and have come across similar threads in regards to the Auto On function.
With my sub this is what I have discovered in checking settings. The AVR channel level for the sub was set at -10dB. In one thread I came across the suggestion was to set the level to +6 ~ +10dB. So when I did that I could actually hear a bit of bass with the sub in Standby (up) and volume knob turned all the way up yet the indicator light is still red. I then switched the Auto switch to 'On', light turned green, and the audio was much louder, with sub volume knob @ 12 o'clock. So now I'm thinking I misunderstood the Auto switch settings?
Should the switch be in the middle or in the up position? The middle says 'On' according the symbols and up says 'Stand By'. Which position should it be in for auto-sensing, On or Stand By?
Apologies for the noobish question but this sub is so much different than my old one.Main: Denon AVR-2310CI | Mission M71i (x4), M7CI, MS10 | Polk Audio Monitor 70

Okay, now I'm feeling like a dimwit.
I just discovered that the Auto switch is a 3-way switch and not just a 2-way as I previously thought. The picture in the manual (Fig. 12) to me indicated that 'on' is with the switch in the middle and 'auto' or 'stand by' is with the switch up. But the symbol of the circle and dot in center doesn't represent the switch position but the light. So I realized that the switch can be pressed DOWN as well. So down is 'always on', middle is 'auto' and up is 'stand by or off'?
If that's the case I find it odd that I was still able to hear a low audio signal with the switch in the up or off/stand by position and volume turned 100%.
Oh well. At least I think I understand the sub now...:pMain: Denon AVR-2310CI | Mission M71i (x4), M7CI, MS10 | Polk Audio Monitor 70
