CD player vs PC soundcard

I currently have a Sony DVD/CD player combo DVP-NS575P(worth now like 30 dollars), 2 Polk Rti8s,polk sub, and a Harman kardon HK3480 receiver.
If I were to hook all that up except the dvd/cd player to my computer and use a $75 sound card such as an ASUS Xonar DX Sound card , would I be hearing any major differences?

I doubt anyone here has made that exact comparison. That's a decent soundcard, why not just give it a try and see which you like better."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

Agree, for the 75 clams, it's not much of an investment to try it out. Personally though,if you go that route and you like it,an external dac would be in order.HT SYSTEM-

I am using a sound card to pass the digital signal out, and an external DAC to process it into my 2 channel system. For me it seems to be the best of both worlds as the PC MOBO no longer handles any sound so I've removed that limitation, and I have the DAC doing the heavy lifting via Toslink to electrically separate my stereo rig from my PC. It's a great sounding source combo that I am extremely happy with, and it has gone through many evolutions over the past two years to get where it is.
Plus, I have a pair of powered, desktop monitors also connected to the PC, and the RCA outs on the card allow connection of those very easily and separately from the digital out.
You can construct a good PC based source, and it can rival great laser based source on the market. Plus, you have the added convenience of storing and accessing digital files without having to change discs.
